Christian Horner praises Sebastian Vettel’s phenomenal drive in Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull team Principal Christian Horner has stated that Sebastian Vettel drove phenomenally in the Canadian Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Horner added that the German patiently drove the 69 laps and in the very last lap, he made a mistake when McLaren’s Jenson Button was right on his tail and was exerting pressure.
The Canadian Grand Prix saw five safety cars and a delay of almost two hours due to a heavy downpour.
Vettel did managed to open up some gap from the second and third drivers but safety cars worked against the defending champion and in the very last lap of the race, he made a mistake when defending against Button who was much faster.
Still, Horner believes that Vettel drove superbly in the Canadian Grand Prix and every credit should be given to him.
Horner said, “When you have led pretty much the entire grand prix, to lose it probably within two kilometres of the finish is frustrating on one hand, but on a day when neither Lewis [Hamilton] nor Fernando [Alonso] scored, to have come away with a P2 and
a P3 is actually a pretty good team result.”
He also said that Button was faster than Vettel and before the battle could reach the second Drag Reduction System zone, the German tried to open up the gap. In the process, he lost control of his car and drove wide on turn six which was enough for Button
to take the win.
Horner said, “Look at what happened in the five hours that that grand prix seemed to consume here. There were a lot of mistakes in really difficult conditions, and he should not be too disappointed.”
Nevertheless, Red Bull are still on top of the championship tables, drivers’ and constructors’ both, and will take a healthy lead of 69 championship points in the next round of the Formula 1 2011 season.
The eighth round of the season will be contested on June 26, 2011 in Valencia.
