Christian Horner receives OBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has received OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to the world of autosport in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Horner has expressed great delight on receiving OBE. He said that it is a little bit unexpected for him to receive such an honour. However, he stated that he is immensely pleased to get the award. In addition, he said that he feels privileged to see his
name amongst the list of people who have been awarded OBE.
“It's all a bit unexpected,” Horner said. “Incredible really, I'm naturally shocked, but I just feel very honoured and privileged to receive it. To be in the company of men and women who have achieved such great things for the country is something very,
very special.”
“This is right up there with what I have achieved in motor sport. You look at the list of people and that they have done across all different industries, charities, for their communities, then I'm hugely honoured,” he added.
He started his F1 career in 1991 after securing the prestigious Formula Renault scholarship. Later, he joined Manor Motorsport and competed in the 1992 British Formula Renault Championship. He ended the season as the highest placed rookie the sport. Then,
he progressed to British Formula Three and made his debut with the Fortec team in 1994. After that, in 1995, he moved to ADR team and in 1996, he took part in British Formula two. In 1997, he moved to Formula 3000 and founded the Arden team. He retired from
his driving career at the end of 1998.
In 2005, he joined Red Bull Racing as the youngest team principal at that time. He has managed the team remarkably well until now and is widely recognised for his endeavours which made his squad able to win their third consecutive drivers’ and constructors’
championship in 2012.
At present, the Milton Keynes based team is leading the constructors’ championship with 201 points and is ahead of Ferrari. It will be thrilling to see whether it will be able to defend its title or not.
