Christian Horner says Lewis Hamilton is currently ‘unavailable’ for Red Bull Racing – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner has said that McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is currently ‘unavailable’ for the team and that they are happy with their current drivers’ line-up.
There were speculations that Red Bull were targeting to replace Mark Webber with Hamilton in near future. However, nothing concrete could evolve from the rumours after that.
Horner explained that although a pair of Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel would work perfectly together, but the team has not given it a great deal of thought, as they believe the Brit is currently unavailable for them.
McLaren driver, Hamilton had a meeting with the Red Bull boss during the Canadian Grand Prix, where he triggered speculations about shifting his team.
Horner admitted that it was a surprise for him when Hamilton came to meet him. He refused to talk about what they have discussed during the meeting.
He said, “He has been a McLaren driver for over ten years and we are very happy with Sebastian Vettel, we have a long term contract with him and we are very happy with the job that Mark Webber is doing. Speculation to the contrary is purely that at the moment.”
Recently, the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton said that he wants to remain a part of his current team in future, because he believes the team provided him a perfect as well as a competitive car in the 2011 season.
The 26-year-old driver admitted that he is happy and satisfied with McLaren. In addition, he said that he wants to have a very strong fight with other contenders in the upcoming race weekends.
The team driver went on to mention, “I have got a fantastic team here. I have been with this team since I was 13 years old and like I said before; as long as we remain competitive there is no reason to go anywhere else. My plan right now is to keep focusing on pushing these guys forward and trying to improve and win more races.”
McLaren are hoping for a strong performance from Hamilton in the European Grand Prix. Let’s see how the Brit lives up to his team’s expectations in Valencia.
