Christian Horner says Red Bull Racing must improve to defend their title in 2013 – Formula 1 new
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that they must make improvements so as to defend their championship title in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Milton Keynes based squad completely dominated during the last season as Sebastian Vettel won 11 races. However, they faced immense difficulties during the start of this season because of the changes in the rules and regulations by FIA, especially the
ban on the double diffuser.
Nonetheless, the chief technical officer of Red Bull, Adrian Newey didn’t back down and kept on making the essential developments in RB8 so as to provide Vettel with the fastest car in the field.
Newey finally succeeded and helped the veteran German driver and his team in claiming their third consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ championship titles.
Horner has recently said that he is extremely happy with the performance of his team and now they are looking forward to make the necessary preparations for the next season in order to come up stronger to defend their title.
In addition, he said that they need to take the most out of their development process during the winter testing to come up with a competitive car right from the start of the coming season.
“Inevitably focus shifts towards 2013,” Horner said. “What I can say is we've got a great foundation, we've got a great basis; even if we took this car to first race next year it would be good starting point. But F1 doesn't stand still and we have to evolve,
we have to improve, and everybody in the team knows that. As we have improved over the last three years we'll be looking to do the same next year.”
Furthermore, he said that 2012 has been their toughest season so far as they struggled with their car’s design throughout the year. Therefore, he insisted that they must prepare well as the competition is expected to be even tougher in the next season.
“This year for sure was the hardest of the three where I think we've had to show true strength of character of the team,” he added.
