Christian Horner says Red Bull Racing will seek answers on blown diffuser ban – Formula 1 news
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has said that the team still wants clarification on the blown diffuser ban which will be implemented from July’s Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Horner added that although the ban would not affect the speed of the RB7 in the season but the understanding of the new mechanism will take time which Red Bull cannot afford halfway through the season.
Red Bull along with McLaren and Ferrari are taking full advantage of the blown diffuser, which helps the drivers in corners and turns.
However, as the ban on the diffuser is to be implemented from the Silverstone Grand Prix after it was found that the diffuser is against the International Automobile Federation (FIA) rules, Horner thinks that his team will seek clarification on the ban.
He said, “There are two issues. One is the impact of it, which I doubt will probably affect us any more or any less than any other team. But the other one is the mechanism and the understanding behind the technical directive. That is what will undoubtedly
be debated in the TWG next week, which is probably the right forum to discuss it.”
The diffuser ban was to be implemented before the Spanish Grand Prix but was postponed after the teams acquired a stay order from the court.
Furthermore, Hispania Racing Team warned that if the diffuser is not banned, they will not be participating in the Monaco Grand Prix. The FIA later decided to give teams some time before the diffuser was banned and now Horner is unsure about the ban.
He said, “There are certain questions that we want to ask about the technical directive that we need clarification on.”
However, since the ban on the diffuser is confirmed, the only question remains about how much changes will be brought about in the car as a result.
Nevertheless, the top ranked teams will suffer from the ban on the diffuser and it will be interesting to see how they cope up with the situation.
