Christian Horner says Red Bull not comfortable with soft tyres blistering issue – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that the team did not feel completely comfortable with the soft tyres blistering issue during the qualifying round of the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix.
The team driver Mark Webber had a blistering tyres issue during Qualifiers on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Spa-Francorchamps and due to that, secured a third place for Sunday’s race. However, the Red Bull principal added that none of them felt comfortable
with the tyres due to its blistering issue in the Belgium Grand Prix.
Horner commented, “On the prime tyre there was no issue at all and the tyre was very clean. You could see, particularly on the frontrunning cars, that all the teams were affected by blistering. Fernando's looked pretty bad at one stage, Lewis was having
issues, as was Jenson.”
He added, “So I think all the frontrunning cars seemed to be having issues and it was a consequence of having no dry running in P1, P2 or P3. Then, obviously, the forces put into the tyre here are somewhat different to some of the other circuits.”
Despite the blistering issue in the qualifying round, both of the drivers Sebastian Vettel and Webber impressed the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix by taking first and second place respectively at Spa circuit.
Vettel was in a very competitive form in the Belgium Grand Prix following his unsuccessful last couple of races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. He successfully secured his pole place in Qualifiers at Spa-Francorchamps and after struggling for his best finish
during the raceday, he achieved his seventh race victory of the season in Belgium.
His teammate Webber recently signed a contract with Red Bull Racing for the 2012 F1 season. After that, he impressed his team by taking podium position for them in Belgium. He was 3.7 seconds slow on the grid behind his teammate Vettel and after struggling
on the sets of medium and soft tyres by Pirelli he ended up ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button, who came on the last stair of the podium.
Let’s see how both the drivers Vettel and Webber perform in the rest of the ongoing season after their very strong results in the Belgium race weekend.
