Christian Horner says Red Bull will decide their 2014 driver line-up in summer – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that they will make the decision regarding their 2014 driver line-up in summer and remained evasive on Mark Webber’s future in their team beyond 2013 Formula 1 season.
Horner expressed that they are currently not in a position to decide about their drivers for the next season. However, he said that they are looking forward to make the decision regarding their drivers during the summer.
Furthermore, he asserted that if Webber will keep on performing well for the team in the forthcoming races, they will retain the Aussie for the next season. But, he didn’t pass any conclusive remarks about the future of the 36-year-old in their team.
“We're only five races in; we're only a quarter of the season through the championship,” Horner said. “Our decisions regarding drivers will be made in the summer and Mark - if he's delivering and motivated and has the desire to continue - of course will
be a driver that we know and has achieved so much with us that we'll consider very closely. But no decisions will be made about drivers until later in the summer.”
In addition, he said that there is a pressure on all the drivers to perform well for their teams in order to make their position stronger for the favourable future.
“It's probably both. At the end of the day there is pressure to perform but that exists for all the drivers,” he added.
It will be important to note that the Australian driver has been surrounded by immense speculations that he may be dropped by the Milton Keynes based squad at the end of this season.
Presently, he is standing at 6th place in the drivers’ championship with 42 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus and behind his major rival, Felipe Massa. Despite struggling with his pace in a couple of races, he is confidently eying
to perform well in the season ahead.
Let’s see how he performs in the approaching races and whether he will be able to secure his race seat at Red Bull for the next season or not.
