Christian Horner says Red Bull will not suffer by Blown Diffuser clampdown – Formula 1 news
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has stated that the Blown Diffuser clampdown from the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season is not going to dent their performance.
Horner added that Red Bull used the Diffuser as a side kick but teams like Renault built their entire system around the Diffuser will have a huge impact from its early exit.
Horner added that the entire front row cars will be affected from the Diffuser clampdown and Red Bull will not lose something extra.
Horner stated only the balance of the car is going to suffer which the team will take care of.
“It's a matter of balancing the car, so it's a matter of making sure that we can achieve the kind of balance that we've had in the races to date. And hopefully - touch wood - we will be able to do that. We only get to see that in Silverstone,” stated Horner.
He further added, “It's the same regulation clarification for everybody, but the effect it will have on the others, that's impossible for us to predict. I don't think we've gone as extreme as others either with the type of air that they're blowing, or the
positioning... One team [Renault] obviously have built their entire car around it.”
The Blown Diffuser is believed to give Red Bull an extra half a second advantage in the qualifiers due to which they have been able to grab all the eight pole positions of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
In the Valencia Grand Prix Friday Practice Session 1, Red Bull used the Silverstone specifications in Sebastian Vettel’s car which clearly showed results as the German found himself way down in the rankings, 2.5 seconds slower than the leader, his teammate
Mark Webber.
However, Red Bull have a substantial lead in the 2011 championship battle and the effect of the Blown Diffusers on their car is not expected to dent their lead.
