Christian Horner says he was worried about imminent danger for Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, has admitted that he was worried about Sebastian Vettel getting retired from the race after he collided with Williams’ Bruno Senna in the first lap of the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.
“Absolutely,” Horner stated when he was asked if he had been worried about Vettel retiring. “There was quite a lot of damage to the exhaust and they're sensitive bits of equipment and to receive an impact like that was massively concerning. What we saw is
as the pace picked up the problem became more evident; the loss that Sebastian had. Then we saw another bit of the bodywork disappear off the car. The only good thing about the race was the laps seemed to go quite quickly, because there was so much going on
everything was happening so quickly.”
Horner admitted that the current season has been definitely difficult and that the F1 itself is a tough business. He said that their opponents are competitive and you can easily become unpopular among them if you have been enjoying constant success. He told
that this season, they had not focused on what other teams were doing but rather on improving their own performance.
He is of the opinion that the team has achieved something big this season. He stated that the team remained grounded even after securing the constructors’ title because they knew only half the job was done. He admitted that the last weekend of the season
was surely stressful as many things went wrong for the team and they had to race through some tricky conditions. He says that Vettel fought back despite all odds.
Horner has also appreciated their Ferrari rival, Fernando Alonso, for bringing on a tough fight. He admitted that his performance was well enough to put them out of the competition at one stage during the season.
Red Bull Racing has been in F1 for the past eight years and have been winning both the constructors’ and the drivers’ championship consecutively for the last three years. With this latest achievement, Vettel has become the youngest triple champion in the
history of F1.
