Christian Horner says it is difficult to make predictions in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that it is very difficult to make any kind of predictions in 2012 Formula 1 season as there have been five different winners in the first five races who ran their cars on entirely different setups.
Despite facing difficulties during the start of the season, at present, the defending champions are leading the constructors’ championship with 109 points and they are 11 points ahead of McLaren.
Furthermore, they have been considered as one of the most favourite contenders for this season’s championship fight. However, they have expressed their concern over the unpredictability of this season.
“Two races ago Nico Rosberg dominated, but in Spain he was almost lapped. It is very difficult to predict what’s going to happen next — a nightmare for the bookmakers,” he said.
The double world champion team completely dominated during the preceding season with the most competitive car as they won 12 out of 20 races. Moreover, their driver, Sebastian Vettel claimed 11 victories while his teammate, Mark Webber took only one GP victory.
Conversely, in this season, it seems that they have struggled due to the change in the rules of aerodynamics as the exhaust-blown diffuser was banned by FIA which has affected their dominance as they have only been able to achieve one victory in the season
so far.
In addition, when Horner was asked about the role of Adrian Newey, the technical director of Red Bull, he responded in favour of the genius. Nonetheless, he also asserted that it is important to focus on each and every aspect of the game while he emphasised
on the tyre management issues.
“Adrian is not just an aerodynamicist, and aerodynamics are still important anyway. But now it’s about harmonising everything, and these tyres are simply remarkably complex,” he said.
Over and above, he said that to perform with consistency throughout the season ahead is very crucial. Besides, he said that they have been trying their best to make the significant developments and the substantial preparations for the forthcoming races in
order to improve the pace of RB8 so as to defend their championship title this year.
