Christian Horner says that a drinks company beat an engineering company - Formula 1
Red Bull’s team boss, Christian Horner, has responded to Lewis Hamilton’s comment and said that despite being a drinks company, Red Bull have beaten some of the great engineering companies in the 2010 Formula 1 season. Horner further added that the performance
Red Bull team have shown in the last two years is the ultimate difference between them and the other teams.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren had been previously quoted as saying that Red Bull is just a drink company after all and will not overcome the sport when some of the fiercest competitors like Ferrari and McLaren are present. He further added that Red Bull did
have a good season in which they clinched both titles, Constructor and Drivers, but this year they will have to fight hard to regain those titles.
Horner countered Hamilton’s comments by saying that Red Bull are a drinks company and still managed to win 15 Grand Prix  and two titles in the last two years. He said that Red Bull should be appreciated for the fact that it defeated Formula 1 giants while
only being a drinks company. Horner said, “But for just a drinks company we've beaten an engineering company with the resources that McLaren has had for the last couple of years. We are much more than just a drinks company.”
Horner further added that the performance is the parameter that decides the champions and not the name of the team. He added, “Ultimately it is down to what you do on the track. We are looking to build on that this year.”
Red Bull are only in their seventh season and already are being regarded as a competitor team. Many drivers have said that Red Bull will be the pace sitter in the 2011 season. Seven times Formula 1 champion, Michael Schumacher, also said that with all the
upgrades to the Mercedes car, he will not be able to beat Red Bull.
With the first practice day over in Melbourne, McLaren have shown some resistance in Red Bull’s way as Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were the top two names on the times chart, with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in third.
