Christian Horner says titles not a priority for Red Bull – Formula 1 news
The team principal for Red Bull Racing team Christian Horner has stated that despite Sebastian Vettel’s lead in the drivers’ championship, a title win is not one of their priorities.
When Vettel won the Korean Grand Prix this weekend, he took a six point lead over Fernando Alonso and is at the top with 215 points now. Teammate Mark Webber finished second in the same race that puts Red Bull in the lead for the constructors’ championship.
At present, the Red Bull Racing team is the favourite to win both titles and if they do, this will be their third consecutive championship double win.
Although Horner insists that despite the fact that the prospect of such a win is extremely satisfying, they are more focused on performing better each Sunday.
“Sebastian finds himself six points in the lead with four to go but his main opponent was only one place away from him on the podium. So we're not even thinking about titles at the moment, we're more focused on trying to extract the most out of each grand
prix weekend. When everything comes together and you get a one-two finish it's the culmination of so many factors having to come right that it's totally satisfying to achieve and realise that result.”
He admits that the more you succeed, the harder it becomes as the expectations rise with each time. He added that the first title win in 2010 was really good and in 2011 they did better at defending it than winning it all over again.
Talking about Vettel, he said that the driver has matured over the last couple of years. He said that he has been learning from all the experiences he has encountered especially from the tough time he had to face on his way to the title win in 2010.
Horner commented that they have not been taking their success for granted and he is looking forward to a tough competition against Alonso. With four more races still to go, he thinks that nothing is confirmed yet and they need to keep their performance steady.
