Christian Horner terms Mark Webber a world class driver – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has recently stated that Mark Webber is a world class driver.
However, Webber he is out of the 2011 championship run mathematically but is still going to stick with the team until the end of the 2012 Formula 1 season at least.
“At a track that has not particularly suited him over the years, he did a really good job, making a couple of good passes on Fernando (Alonso). Rest assured, he will be pushing hard to win grands prix in the remaining five races,” Horner said.
Webber did a great job back in 2010 as he competed for the championship until the very last race of the season and won a handful of races in order to be in a comfortable position for the championship run.
This year, he has secured a couple of pole positions but has not been able to win a single race and is being criticised highly for not coping up with his teammate Sebastian Vettel keeping in mind that he is using the same piece of machinery as well.
Horner believes that Webber is still one of the best and is an excellent driver. “He is up against the best driver in the world at the moment. Take nothing away from Mark, he is a world-class driver, it is just Sebastian has upped the level to such a phenomenal
height,” added Horner.
Formula 1 is a technical sport and a driver on his own cannot score amazing results. Ferrari and McLaren are clearly not up to the mark this year in terms of technology but drivers like Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton can definitely
compete with Vettel in terms of skills.
The next race of the 2011 Formula 1 season takes place in Suzuka, Japan on October 9, 2011. Let’s see if Mark Webber is able to do anything impressive there and wins his maiden race of the season.
