Christian Horner thinks Mark Webber struggled to adapt late changes in RB8 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that their driver Mark Webber could not score competitive points during the last few races of the 2012 Formula 1 season because he struggled to adapt the late changes in RB8.
Webber stood amongst one of the most consistent point scorers during the start of the last season. Moreover, he was well in the fight for the title during the preceding year. However, he failed to keep up the level of consistency towards the end of the season
due to which he lost some crucial points and could only secure 6th place finish in the driver’ championship. Furthermore, he stood behind Jenson Button of McLaren and ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
On the other hand, his teammate, Sebastian Vettel performed impressively well throughout the year. Even though, he struggled a little bit during the start of the season. However, he hit back amazingly well during the last few grands prix with the fastest
car and won the championship by just 3 points from his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari after securing 6th place finish in the epic season finale held at Interlagos, Brazil.
It will be important to mention that after claiming the last year’s title, the veteran German driver has become the youngest triple world champion in the history of the sport.
Horner believes that Vettel adapted very well to the development they made towards the end of the previous year as compared to Webber. Therefore, he said that the Aussie struggled with his pace during the last few races.
“Certainly Seb was able to get more out of the upgrade than Mark was,” Red Bull's team boss told Autosport. “It did seem to suit his requirements whereas Mark never seemed quite as comfortable. But he still had Korea pole, a front row in Abu Dhabi, and outqualified
Seb in Brazil.”
“It was mainly in the races where Seb was able to exploit the most out of the car,” he said.
“It's obviously tough for Mark - he is a world class driver but he is up against the best in the world. It is hard for any driver to accept that,” he added.
