Christian Horner trusts Mark Webber to support the team in its objectives – Formula 1 news
The team principal for Red Bull Racing team, Christian Horner, has expressed his trust in Mark Webber to support their decisions regarding teammate Sebastian Vettel’s championship streak.
Vettel, who won the Formula 1 title both in 2010 and 2011, is set to win the championship all over again this year too. He is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 240 points and is in a strong competition with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the
second place. Vettel will be becoming the youngest driver ever to win three Formula 1 titles in a row if he wins this season too and Red Bull’s main objective is to make that a reality. The team expects Webber to help Vettel achieve that.
However, Webber had confessed ahead of the Indian Grand Prix which took place last weekend that he will not give up his chance at the championship if he finds himself leading the race. On the other hand, Horner believes that Webber will make his decisions
in the team’s best interests as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix approaches this Sunday.
“Mark is a strong competitor, he's a big team player and I am quite convinced he will want to see the team achieve its best possible results,” Horner said. “I'm sure - as a team player - if required he would do everything to support that team. Mathematically
now it's very difficult for him to win the championship, he's a smart guy, he's an important part of the team and I've got every confidence that he will be doing his best to help the team achieve its objectives for the championship.”
He denied about giving any direct instructions to Webber and insists that he does not feel it necessary to discuss the issue with him as his objectives are clear to him. He should be focusing on achieving the constructors’ title for the team while the team
should be managing putting both their drivers ahead of Alonso in coming races.
Vettel has been unsure about his finishing the season with a title win despite all the hype. He thinks that Alonso cannot be underestimated and the competition will continue until the last race.
