Christian Horner writes off Lewis Hamilton’s chances of joining Red Bull Racing Team – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that signing Lewis Hamilton with the team as a replacement for Mark Webber will not be a good option.
Horner said that history is evident that two competitive world champions in the same team never get along.
“On paper a Vettel-Hamilton line-up would be hugely attractive. But you have to look at the reality, at how these things work, and history dictates that two world-class drivers in the same team has not always been the best pairing. You only have to think
of Senna-Prost, Piquet-Mansell, or even Alonso and Hamilton,” he said.
Other than that, one has to admit that Red Bull Racing are currently achieving their goals and literally dominating the 2011 Formula 1 season. Sebastian Vettel is currently leading the drivers’ standings by 186 points which is 77 points more than his closest
rivals Jenson Button and Mark Webber. Red Bull Racing are currently leading the constructors’ championship as well by 295 points in a period of just 8 races up until now.
“We are hugely happy to have Sebastian committed to the team long term, and with Mark [Webber], we're very pleased with the job he is doing. Our focus at present is on those two drivers rather than looking to change anything,” said Horner.
Either way, Lewis Hamilton has been linked with the team and since Webber’s contract is again going to expire by the end of this year. For Hamilton at least this is going to be a big opportunity as McLaren have been failing to produce a championship-winning
car since the past few years.
But since McLaren are a more established and legendary team, one has to admit that they are going to produce a good championship winning or at least championship challenging car sooner or later while Red Bull’s pace can drop anytime.
Like Horner said, in the end, it is about winning and that is what Red Bull are currently doing which means that they do not have to change anything to make things better for them statistically.
