Christian Klien expresses his interest in driving for Hispania Racing Team again – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Hispania Racing Team driver Christian Klien has told the media that he is interested to drive again with his 2010 team.
Klien is still pushing to secure himself for the second Hispania seat alongside the HRT’s Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan on the 2011 grid.
Other than Karthikeyan, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Giorgio Mondini recently tested with HRT and after that, they were considered the favourites for the spot
However, Klien, who really impressed on his few outings for a struggling HRT team, performed well for the team in 2010.
He revealed, “My manager Roman Rummenigge is in permanent contact with the (HRT) team's management.”
The 28-year-old Klien joined the Hispania Racing Team in 2010. He was selected as the reserve driver of the team and took part in his first Grand Prix on the Spanish track.
At the Spanish Grand Prix, he drove in his first practice session in place of Indian driver Karun Chandhok, who retired after the 2010 season ended. Klien faced mechanical problems with his car at the European Grand Prix however, he did not perform well
during the Grand Prix. He finished five races in 2010 and his progress was good in them.
As regards to the pre-season Formula 1 tests, Klien told the media that he does not think Liuzzi and Mondini are better placed to secure the team seat this year. In the Valencia tests, the team took part in the races and did not perform well in their old
F1 car.
HRT released their new 2011 car images in February and announced that they will launch it very soon. However, in the final Barcelona test, the team will again take part with their 2010 car while it is not yet confirmed who will drive with Karthikeyan in
the upcoming season.
On the other hand, Klien admitted that Liuzzi and him were good friends and said, “No matter who gets the drive, it will not change our good and respectful relationship.”
He stated that he would love to drive for HRT in the 2011 season but if nothing works out, then the viewers will find him racing elsewhere.
