Christian Lind, Joachim Persson march into second round of 2013 Canadian International Challenge
Denmark’s prime Men’s Doubles team Christian Lind Thomsen-Joachim Persson cleared first hurdle in Ottawa Canadian International Challenge and gained access to pre quarter-final round on June 26, 2013.
This opening round match was played at the local badminton complex of Ottawa where a native duo Kevin Li-Nyl Yakura displayed great fighting spirit and earned great deal of admiration. This 42-minute tussle belonged to the Danish team with decisive figures
of 19-21, 24-22 and 21-15 but still the local campaigners managed to serve notice of their potential.
The twosome of Kevin and Nyl started their campaign in perfect manner as the ruled the court in establishing rallies of first set and gained a decent advantage. They made best out of this lead in next couple of rallies and placed a respectable score on the
board.
At the half time, the Canadian team was in commanding position but then few back-to-back mistakes weakened their grip. They put their dominance in danger due to a below par performance. However, it was a temporary bad patch as they managed to tip the scale
in their favour when it mattered and finished this set with 21-19 margin.
The second set of match proved real test of their mental and physical strength as both teams tried hard to achieve their respective goals. Kevin and Nyl were looking to wrap this showdown in just two games whereas the Danish duo was trying to avoid a straight-set
defeat.
In first half of the set, both contenders stood toe-to-toe all the way to mid-game break and made the crowd gasp with their mesmerising performance. The game kept swinging between them till final moments and this cliff-hanging set ended when Christian and
Joachim registered a winning figure of 24-22.
With this development, the decider turned into survival of the fittest war and both pairs put all they had to oust the opponent. Christian and Joachim were bit sluggish in the beginning but then they gained the required momentum and cruised to victory with
21-15 score.
This win took them to pre quarter-finals of the tournament and now they will face Hugo Arthuso-Alex Yuwan Tjong of Brazil.
