Napoli are in quest for the crucial third-spot in the Serie A standings, in order to earn a qualification to the UEFA Champions League in the next season.
Their hopes of a successful qualification have diminished substantially with the injury of Christian Maggio, who limped off the field during their 2-0 win over Siena in the Coppa Italian semi-finals.

to remain out of play for the next month.
The win over Siena may have brought them closer to the Coppa Italia trophy, but the injury during the match will take them further away from their European ambitions for the next year.
Napoli boss, Walter Mazzarri, insists that Maggio is a player with unique characteristics, and his absence will be greatly felt by the Partenopei.
While talking to the press, the Azzurri chief said:
“Maggio is someone who is good defensively and someone who can drive past his opponents. Nobody has the characteristics that he possesses.”
The Partenopei chief denied that Napoli will be looking at a change of formation following the star’s injury, and insisted that the club will adopt strategies pertaining to each individual game.
“A change of system to cope without him? I don’t think that would be the best option for the team. We’ll just have to take it game by game and decide on what tactics to adopt.”
