The Bayern Munich sporting director has claimed that his side deserved to win and is distraught after the defeat in the final.
The Bavarians suffered a shock loss at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the final of the UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Arena. The two teams played a 1-1 draw until extra-time but there was no deciding goal and the game was decided
on penalties. The visitors triumphed on the shootout as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivica-Olic-c17399 missed their respective kicks.
Nerlinger claimed that his side were clearly the better team over the course of the game and admitted that the club is shell-shocked with the loss. He insisted that Bayern created a host of chances to score but failed to capitalise
on their opportunities.
The sporting director added that the players are inconsolable after the result and has stated that Bayern should have won the game easily. He rued missed chances and added that it was a great opportunity which has gone begging.
“Everyone who saw the match knows we deserved to win. What happened is a nightmare for us. We're deeply disappointed. We created chances. It's hard to find the right words. It's a total nightmare, and the mood in the dressing room
reflects that. We were clearly the better team,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, President Uli Hoeness claimed that the visitors were very lucky to win the competition as they were clearly the second best team on the pitch. He insisted that the luck was on the English team’s side otherwise
the German outfit certainly played the better football of the two teams.
“Chelsea didn't create a single chance, but we've still not managed to win, which is unbelievable. It's hard to put into words. If you have so many chances to wrap up a game, you have to do so,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich failed to win their fifth Champions League as Chelsea went on to claim their maiden European title. The Germans also reached the final two years ago but were denied the win by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan.
