The Bayern Munich sporting director has insisted that his side is on par with Real Madrid and he expects a tough battle when the two teams meet in the second-leg.
Bayern Munich were the winners of the first-leg which was played at the Allianz Arena last week. The match ended with a 2-1 scoreline as Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez scored for the home side whereas Mesut Ozil found the net in
the second-half for a crucial away goal.
Nerlinger claimed that both sides are evenly matched and insisted that the fans should expect a great battle on the field. He played down talks that Real Madrid is a much better team than Bayern and stated that the Bavarian giants’
performance against Los Blancos at last week shows it all.
The former player added that the team’s form on the day of the game will play a major role in determining the result. He is confident that the former German champions will emerge victorious from the Santiago Bernabeu this week.
“I honestly have to say that if I go through the positions on the field, I see us matched up really well. The quality of our starting eleven is completely equivalent to that of Madrid. We do not need any of Real's players, we are
at eye level. Form on the day will play a major role on Wednesday,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the chief added that Bayern will play with their best eleven in the game despite seven players already on a booking.
“That is impossible. We will have to give 100 per cent. We simply have to have a bit of luck. I think that especially for the sake of the competition - independently of us - it is important that the two finalists will face off
at full strength,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will lock horns on Wednesday, April 25, at the Santiago Bernabeu. The home side will be looking to overcome the one goal deficit whereas Bayern will be looking to score as early as possible to put
further pressure on the hosts.
