Christian Nerlinger delighted with Bayern’s progression to the Champions League group stage
Bayern Munich Sporting Director Christian Nerlinger has expressed his delight on reaching the group stages of the UEFA Champions League after beating FC Zurich in the qualifier play-offs. He admitted that progressing to the group
stages has put a lot of burden off the team and he now looks forward to a successful campaign in Europe.
The Munich giants won the second-leg of the play-off against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 side FC Zurich at the Letzigrund in Zurich on Tuesday with a 1-0 score line to progress. Mario Gomez scored the only goal of the game to give his side a 3-0
aggregate win.
Nerlinger claimed that the team has put in a lot of effort to progress further in the competition. He admitted that the players were under a lot of pressure while playing the qualifiers as it was very important to win. He also
heaped praise on the players for performing brilliantly in the clash.
“Of course it [Champions League qualification] takes a big weight off our chest. Everyone felt the pressure surrounding the club,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The chief insisted that scoring the early goal was vital as it took the aggregate to 3-0 and his side also scored the crucial away goal which left no chance for the home side. He added that Bayern will be high in confidence when
they play in the group stage which could result in a very successful tournament.
Nerlinger claimed that his side is ready for any challenge in the competition as Bayern await their group which would be decided in a draw held in Monaco on Thursday, August 25.
“Taking the lead early was very important; at 3-0 on aggregate the pressure was not as big. It is very important for Bayern to be in the group stage, and we will enter with confidence,” he concluded.
