Christian Nerlinger gives credit to Mainz on their win, urges Bayern Munich to get back to basics
Bayern Munich sporting director, Christian Nerlinger, has showered praise on Mainz for their win over the Reds on Sunday. He also urged his players to get their acts together in order to avoid slipping down further on the Bundesliga table.
Coface Arena hosted Ruhr derby between the two sides on Sunday, November 27, with Mainz emerging as 3-2 winners. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niko-Bungert-c27923 recorded goals for the hosts.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Van-Buyten-c10095 grabbed a brace for Jupp Heynckes’ team but couldn’t prevent his side from their third defeat in the last five league games.
As a result, the Bavarian giants have slipped to third position in the standings, one point behind Borussia Monchengladbach and the reigning champions, Borussia Dortmund.
The sporting director opined that the O-Fives were terrific from the start and created plenty of chances, much to the surprise of Munich officials and the fans. He also reserved praise for Mainz’s goal scoring trio who shattered Bayern’s dreams of going
atop the league table.
Nerlinger reckoned that Bayern ignored basics and took their opponents lightly. He urged his players not to be complacent in future and urged them to give their hundred percent if they want to match the levels http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Real Madrid.
He also expressed disappointment at his team’s recent slip in form, as Bayern suffered their second successive loss. Their last defeat came against reigning German champions, Borussia Dortmund.
While talking to reporters after Sunday’s game, the sporting director further mentioned:
"We basically have to give a lot of credit to Mainz, but obviously, after a defeat like this, we have to start by looking at ourselves. The trend in the Bundesliga is negative for us: we’ve lost three of the last five matches, and that’s made itself felt
in the table.”
"It's not running as smoothly as it sometimes has, and that’s when you have to fall back on certain fundamentals: the necessary aggression, keeping it tight, stopping your opponents creating chances. We’ve neglected the basics in our recent matches, and
that’s what we’ll work to fix in the coming week." Nerlinger concluded.
