Christian Nilsson happy with his form at the French Open
The first day of the French Open at the Le Golf National has ended. Le Golf National is one of the toughest courses in France. Nonetheless, some of the players have performed exceptionally well. One of those players is Sweden's Christian Nilsson.
Nilsson ended the first day of the Open at the top of the leader board. He was one stroke clear of the second position holders.
Nilsson started off his day with two pars and then a birdie on the third hole. The 33-year-old had a tremendous end to his front nine. He carded three consecutive birdies, starting from the sixth hole. He scored a bogey on the last hole.
His front nine included no double bogeys or eagles. So his score after nine holes was three-under par.
Om the back nine, Nilsson had three birdies, on the tenth, fourteenth and fifteenth hole. There were no double bogeys, bogeys or eagles on his last nine holes.
Nilsson’s score for the back nine was three-under par and his total score was six-under par for the day. He completed the course in 65 shots.
The 263rd in the official Golf Ranking has not been able to display outstanding golf performances in the past few tournaments.
This year has especially been bad for him. Irrespective of that, he is happy with his form and the way he is currently playing.
In an interview, after the first day of the French Open, Nilsson said, "It's been a struggle for me so far this year. My long game was pretty bad, but it's improved and this is good for my confidence".
“I've been very patient I think. I've been practising on things I believe in and just waiting for something to happen - finally looks like it did,” he added.
The 33-year-old professional golfer, Nilsson is followed by England’s Gary Boyd, Italy’s Matteo Manassero and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee. At the end of first day, all of them were at five-under par. They are just a single stroke behind the leader.
At this point, a single mistake by any player can completely change the game.
