Christian Scheruebl conquers Men’s 200m freestyle meet - 2011 European Junior Swimming Championships
Christian Scheruebl of Austria excelled his performance in the Men’s 200m freestyle, on the fifth day of the 2011 European Junior Swimming Championships. The championship is a five-day international swimming meet, providing a chance to all junior swimmers
to compete with each other in their respective events.
The session concluded after the finals of 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m breast-stroke and the 50m freestyle in the Men’s category.
The session initiated with the 200m freestyle, where the 17-year-old Austrian swimmer, Scheruebl, amazed the arena with his stupendous victory in the four-lap swim. He won the gold medal of the event by finishing his swim in a time of 1 minute and 49.51
seconds. He was followed by Denmark’s 18-year-old Daniel Skaaning, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind him and clocked a time of 1 minute and 49.56 seconds. The third spot on the podium was secured by Pawel Werner of Poland, who remained 0.37 seconds behind
Skaaning and earned the bronze finish with a timing of 1 minute and 49.93 seconds.
The second event of the session was the 100m butterfly, where Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia demonstrated his gruelling efforts and earned the gold medal of the event in a time of 53.79 seconds. Stjepanovic edged out his following swimmer, Yevgen Koptyelov
of Ukraine, with a difference of only 0.15 seconds. Koptyelov won the silver medal of the event, by posting a time of 53.94 seconds. He was followed by Martino Lucatello of Italy, who followed them on the podium for the bronze medal, as he clocked a time of
53.96 seconds.
Panagiotis Samilidis of Greece finished first in the 100m breast-stroke swim, where he produced a time of 1 minute and 01.13 seconds for the gold medal. Great Britain’s Craig H Benson followed him on the podium for the silver medal, as he completed his swim
in a time of 1 minute and 02.17 seconds. Benson was 0.10 seconds away from his following swimmer, Olexiy Rozhkov of Ukraine, who emerged on the finishing wall as the third fastest swimmer, by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.27 seconds.
The final event of the session was the 50m freestyle, where Aitor Martinez Rodriguez of Spain reached the top of the podium for the gold medal, by submitting a time of 22.64 seconds. He was followed by Croatia’s Mihael Vukic and Greece’s Kristian Gkolomeev,
who ended with a draw for second position and followed Rodriguez on the podium for the silver medal, with a timing of 22.86 seconds.
The session concluded after the completion of all swimming events in the Men’s category, while the arena applauded for the astonishing swims of junior swimmers.
