Christian Seifert criticises World Cup 2022 – Football news
The German League chief feels the decision to host the tournament in Qatar will be tough, if FIFA chooses to go ahead with the summer schedule.
Bundesliga CEO Christian Seifert has slammed FIFA’s choice to hold the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar during the summer time. Normally, the prestigious tournament is hosted in June every four years, and sometimes part of it also happens in May or July depending
on the country it is being held.
“If you make a decision which is so far away from a sporting perspective, if it is so politically driven, it is wrong. Maybe Fifa should change the claim [on its logo], this is not ‘for the good of the game’,” Seifert was quoted as saying in an interview.
Nevertheless, a number of senior football personalities have asked FIFA to alter the time of year of the event because of the very hot temperatures. On the other hand, the German league’s chief executive has also agreed with them. He said that FIFA did not
make this decision in respect with the football side of things.
“I am convinced it is hard, if not impossible, to play a World Cup in the summer in Qatar,” the German League mused.
He further added that they are politically motivated which is not good for the game. As a result of this, FIFA should change their logo. He claimed it is difficult to hold the event in such a climate if not improbable. He stated that in Germany it was an
electric atmosphere and the summer in Qatar is around 48 degrees hot.

Seifert suggested that the aim should be to care for the player’s health and safety. He feels they will struggle to play in such weather. He also insisted that FIFA will face legal problems if they host the tournament in the winter months. The lawyers will
choose if they can have a re-vote to have the World Cup in winters.
