Christian Sprenger acquires Men’s 100m breaststroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Christian Sprenger of Australia acquired gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The Australian swimmer devastated hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing block for gold medal.
Sprenger, who won silver medal of the same event at the 2012 London Olympic Games, shower no mercy to his challenger and proved his supremacy for the crown.
His notable pace placed him more than half a body length ahead of his toughest challenger as he posted a time of 57.46 seconds.
The champion was chased by Glenn Snyders of New Zealand, who was 0.72 seconds apart and ended his race in second place by clocking a time of 58.18 seconds.
Snyders was trailed by Sean Mahoney of USA, who was 0.35 seconds slower and reached the finishing blockade for third position by posting an effort of 58.53 seconds.
Mahoney was followed by Johannes Skagius of Sweden, who remained one and a half body length slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.14 seconds for fourth position.
Skagius was traced by Jeremy Meyer of Australia, who was 0.22 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 00.36 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, Meyer was traced by Igor Golovin of Russia, who suffered a loss of 0.14 seconds from his foregoing finisher and secured sixth place with the timing of 1 minute and 00.50 seconds.
Seventh position of the swim was obtained by Russell Smith of Great Britain, who stayed 0.29 seconds behind and reported a time of 1 minute and 00.79 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Adam Peaty of Great Britain, who stayed 0.10 seconds away from Smith and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 00.89 seconds.
In addition, Sprenger received massive admiration from the audience for his undisputed efforts and received medals and accolades at the prize ceremony after the race.
