Christian Sprenger claims Men’s 50m breast-stroke title in Tokyo: 2011 FINA World Cup
Double Commonwealth champion, Christian Sprenger of Australia and Pan Pacific medallist, Haruka Ueda of Japan outperformed their rivals in competitive swimming races during the final round of the seven-stop FINA World Cup series in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday,
November 12. Sprenger grabbed Men’s 50m breast-stroke title, while Ueda pocketed Women’s 200m freestyle title, respectively.
Olympic silver medallist, Sprenger smashed his rivals, Ryo Tateishi of Japan and Yuuki Okajima of Japan by knocking the finishing wall in a nerve wrecking mark of 26.54 seconds to win the Men’s 50m breast-stroke title.
Sprenger was the gold medallist in 4x100m IM at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth editions, in Melbourne and Delhi, respectively. In addition, he claimed silver medal in the respective race at the 2008 Olympic editions, in Beijing.
In the meantime, Tateishi pocked silver medal by thumping the finishing blockade in a spot of 26.66 seconds and Okajima settled for bronze title in a time of 26.90 seconds. Brenton Rickard of Australia earned fourth spot in a time of 26.91 seconds, while
Kosuke Kitajima of Japan settled at fifth place in a mark of 26.99 seconds.
Kouichirou Okazaki of Japan claimed sixth position by punching the finishing barrier in a time of 27.01 seconds, whereas, Hiromasa Sakimoto of Japan earned seventh spot by slapping the finishing cordon in a mark of 27.19 seconds. Lastly, Hiroyuki Shirai
of Japan earned eighth place in a time of 27.53 seconds.
In addition, the Women’s 200m freestyle title was pocketed by Haruka Ueda of Japan by touching the finishing cordon in a mark of 1 minute and 53.77 seconds and Hanae Itou of Japan claimed silver title by banging the finishing wall in a spot of 1 minute and
54.58 seconds. The bronze title went to Australia’s Blair Evans in a time of 1 minute and 55.19 seconds.
Merindah Dingjan of Australia smashed Yi Tang of China by smacking the finishing blockade in a time of 1 minute and 56.13 seconds to claim fourth position in the respective race, while Tang was settled at fifth spot in a blot of 1 minute and 56.78 seconds.
