Christian Sprenger clinches Men's 50m breast-stroke title: Day one – Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Christian David Sprenger of Australia clinched the title of Men's 50m breast-stroke on primary day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Beijing, China on Tuesday, November 8.
Beijing is the sixth stage of seven-juncture World Cup series, managed by the international aquatics sport organising body, Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA).
The 25-year-old Sprenger qualified as the third best swimmer into the breast-stroke playoff. He followed the lead of China's Cheng Chen and his team-member Brenton Scott Rickard to confirm his berth in the final round.
The Australian geared up his efforts in the final round, where he clocked a time of 26.64 seconds for gold medal. Sprenger's quickest dive and magnificent strokes played a vital role in cementing his place for the gold spot.
With his impeccable effort, Sprenger remained 1.39 seconds away from the World Cup mark of 25.25 seconds, owned by Cameron Van Den Burgh of South Africa in Berlin during 2009.
He was chased by Xiayan Li of China, who obtained silver medal of the event by reporting a time of 26.75 seconds. The third spot of the race was seized by Rickard, who was just 0.08 seconds slower than his former finisher and reached the podium for bronze medal with the timing of 26.83 seconds.
In the meantime, Leiston Jane Pickett of Australia outshined in the Women's 100m breast-stroke swim. Pickett submitted a wonderful time of 1 minute and 05.49 seconds for gold medal.
She was followed by Hye Jin Kim of Korea, who remained 0.52 seconds away from the gold medallist, producing a time of 1 minute and 06.01 seconds for silver medal.  
With her stupendous effort, she remained 0.25 seconds ahead of China's Liping Ji, who hit the wall with a third finest time of 1 minute and 06.26 seconds.
In addition, the session completed after the conclusion of breast-stroke event in Men's and Women's category. Furthermore, the winners received awards and accolades for their invincible efforts in the breast-stroke disciplines after the completion of session.
The FINA/ARENA World Cup will conclude on November 13 after its final stop in Tokyo, Japan.
