Christian Sprenger clinches Men’s 50m breaststroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Christian Sprenger of Australia clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on opening day of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The Australian swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the shortest breaststroke discipline and ensured his place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
He faced strong contest from Glenn Snyders of New Zealand in the race but with his relentless efforts in the 50m race, Sprenger managed to edge him out over the wall for the crown.
He remained only an inch ahead of his closest competitor and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 26.69 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Snyders, who stayed only 0.05 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 26.74 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Igor Golovin of Russia, who stayed 0.71 seconds slower from his former finisher and surfaced on the finishing as third position holder by clocking a time of 27.43 seconds.
Golovin was chased by Johannes Skagius of Sweden, who suffered a deficit of 0.08 seconds from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as fourth position holder with a timing of 27.51 seconds.
Skagius was traced by Vinicius Borges of Brazil, who was only a stroke away from his foregoing finisher and proved his mettle for fifth place by clocking a time of 27.87 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Chien Yin Lionel Khoo of Singapore, who was 0.03 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 27.90 seconds.
Similarly, Khoo remained 0.19 seconds away from Adam Peaty of Great Britain, who completed his race in seventh place by posting a time of 28.09 seconds.
Peaty was trailed by Jeremy Meyer of Australia, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 28.15 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Sprenger received huge appreciation from the audience for his notable efforts and promised his fans to continue the same in future.
