Christian Sprenger earns Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Christian Sprenger of Indooroopilly earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Friday, March 16.
The 26-year-old Sprenger upset his competitors by occupying gold medal of the 100m discipline with an effort of 59.91 seconds. He remained 0.21 seconds ahead of his closest challenger, Brenton Rickard of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who snared silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.13 seconds.
The 20-year-old Jeremy Meyer of Traralgon stayed almost 1.50 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 01.82 seconds.
After a while, the crowd experienced ruthless aggression of St Peters Western Swim Club’s Ryan Napoleon in the Men’s 200m freestyle semi-final, the 21-year-old Napoleon devastated hopes of his competitors by clinching top qualification spot of the four-lap swim with the timing of 1 minute and 47.51 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained 0.06 seconds ahead of Thomas Fraser-Holmes, who qualified into playoff as strong contender for silver medal as he ended his race with the timing of 1 minute and 47.57 seconds.
He was followed by Napoleon’s teammate, Kenrick Monk, who was just 0.45 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 47.92 seconds for third position.
Subsequently, the crowd witnessed a wonderful effort of Kylie Palmer in Women’s 400m freestyle swim, where she snatched gold medal of the discipline by posting a time of 4 minutes and 03.40 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained considerably faster from her following swimmer, Bronte Barratt of St Peters Western Swim Club, who reached the victory stand for silver medal by clocking 4 minutes and 05.74 seconds.
The 23-year-old Barratt was trailed by Remy Fairweather of Kawana Waters, who accomplished bronze medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 08.63 seconds.
In addition, the arena admired wonderful efforts of all participants whereas the position holders received accolades for their fascinating efforts at prize ceremony of the championship.
