Christian Sprenger earns Men’s 50m breaststroke gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Christian Sprenger of Indooroopilly earned gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on day seven of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Wednesday, March 21.
The 26-year-old Sprenger faced no trouble in dethroning the defending champion, Brenton Rickard in single lap breaststroke event and ensured his place on the victory stand for gold medal.
With his stupendous efforts, Sprenger surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by hitting the wall with the timing of 27.43 seconds. His alluring effort remained 0.48 seconds away from the national mark of 26.95 seconds, owned by Rickard from 2009.
He was followed by Australian record holder Rickard, who stayed 0.54 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing wall with the timing of 27.97 seconds.
The 28-year-old Rickard stayed 0.42 seconds ahead of Joshua Palmer of Lefevre Portside, who seized the podium for bronze medal by ending his swim in a time of 28.39 seconds.
Canberra’s Max Ireland stayed 0.10 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and completed his swim in fourth fastest place by producing a time of 28.49 seconds.
After a while, the audience witnessed nerve-wracking performance of Southport Olympic Swimming Club’s Alice Tait in the Women’s 50m butterfly final. The 25-year-old Alice smothered her challengers and booked her place to the 2012 London Olympic Games by
snatching gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 26.59 seconds.
Her scintillating effort remained 0.06 seconds faster from Jessicah Schipper of Chandler, who accomplished silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 26.65 seconds. The silver medallist was chased by Brianna Throssell of City of Perth, who was 0.11
seconds slower form her but succeed in securing bronze medal of the discipline by clocking 26.76 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was secured by Lucia Lassman of Chandler, who posted a time of 27.28 seconds. She was trailed by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who stayed only one stroke behind Lassman and hit the wall with the timing of 27.54 seconds.
Furthermore, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all races.
