Christian Sprenger grabs Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Christian Sprenger of Indooroopilly grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Thursday, September 13.
Sprenger, who won silver medal of the same event at the 2012 London Olympic Games, continued his breast-taking efforts and dominated the event at national level.
With his persistent efforts, Sprenger spoiled the party of his competitors in a very comfortable manner as he rushed his way towards the finishing end for gold medal by submitting a time of 58.70 seconds.
Sprenger was followed by Jeremy Meyer of Traralgon, VIC, who stayed one body length behind and earned second best spot on the victory stand by clocking an effort of 59.65 seconds.
Meyer was chased by Nikola Pregelj of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and pocketed bronze medal of the event by reporting a time of 59.83 seconds.
Fourth position holder of the event was obtained by Nichol Schafer of River City Rapid, who was 0.41 seconds apart and settled on the wall by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.24 seconds.
Subsequently, Schafer enjoyed an advantage of 0.34 seconds over Joshua Palmer of Lefevre Portside, who proved his eligibility for fifth position by completing his race in a time of 1 minute and 00.58 seconds.
Palmer remained just 0.01 seconds lucky over James Stacey of Lane Cove, NSW, who finished sixth in the race by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.59 seconds.
Stacey gained a lead of half body length over Max Ireland of Canberra, NSW, who remained prominent for seventh position of the discipline by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.02 seconds.
Similarly, Ireland remained 0.37 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Lennard Bremer of West Coast, WA, who ended his swim in eighth best place by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 01.39 seconds.
Sprenger was contented after winning the national title of the event and aroused hopes of his supporters by saying that, he would struggle hard to achieve the same in future events.
