Christian Sprenger of Indooroopilly pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on concluding day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
Sprenger, who won silver medal of the 100m breaststroke at the 2012 London Olympic Games, continued his nerve-wrecking form at the national championship and captured gold medal.
Sprenger showed no mercy to his opponents in the shortest breaststroke discipline and rushed his way towards the finishing end for the title.
The 26-year-old Sprenger stayed half body length ahead of his closest competitor and transpired on the finishing blockade with an effort of 26.96 seconds for the crown.
The gold medallist was followed by Nikola Pregelj of Southport Olympic Swim Club, who stayed 0.50 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as second position holder by submitting a time of 27.46 seconds.
Pregelj was chased by Joshua Palmer of Lefevre Portside, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing a time of 27.77 seconds.
Palmer remained 0.07 seconds faster from Max Ireland of Canberra, NSW, who was just an inch slower from securing third position but ended fourth in the event by reporting a time of 27.84 seconds.
Fifth best position of the race was secured by James Stacey of Lane Cove, NSW, who was almost half a body length behind and touched the wall with a timing of 28.23 seconds.
Stacey was traced by Jeremy Meyer of Traralgon, VIC, who stayed 0.02 seconds behind and remained prominent for sixth position of the event by clocking an effort of 28.25 seconds.
Meyer was followed by Robert Evans of Peel Aquatic, WA, who was only 0.09 seconds behind and ended his race in seventh place by clocking a time of 28.34 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Tim Cottam of Barker Aquatic, who stayed 0.06 seconds behind and posted a time of 28.40 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Sprenger was happy with his inevitable win in the breaststroke discipline and articulated his plans of working hard to achieve the same at next Olympic Games.
