The SC Freiburg manager is pleased to have avoided relegation after a goalless draw against Hannover at the weekend.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 manager Christian Streich is relieved to have avoided relegation into the second division after emerging with a point against Hannover. The two sides locked heads on Sunday, April 22, at the AWD-Arena with both teams
failing to score despite numerous opportunities in both halves.
Streich mentioned that it is disappointing to emerge with a point especially when there were number of opportunities at the disposal. He admitted that his players took things lightly at certain stages which was disappointing to
see but praised them for staying focused and avoiding relegation after remaining one of the bottom three candidates for most part of this campaign.
While addressing official Bundesliga website, Bundesliga.de, the tactician further added: “Every time it looked like we were getting somewhere, we lost our focus and got sloppy. Overall though, managing to stay up is an enormous
achievement of course. We've demanded an awful lot from the players over the past few weeks, and they've knuckled down without complaint.”
On the other hand, Hannover boss, Mirko Slomka slammed his side at not being able to score amidst clear cut chances especially in the second-half. He mentioned that this game was a glorious opportunity for his side to close the
gap on Bayer Leverkusen to just one point.
However, Slomka is confident that with two games left to play this season, the Reds will not falter any further and will continue to fight for a top six finish which would prevent them from playing the Europa League playoffs.
“We looked like getting a grip on the game at two different stages, but we didn't take our chances when it mattered most. I'm disappointed with our showing up front, and we've missed an opportunity to put some distance between
ourselves and our rivals. It's all still up for grabs, but I remain confident,” Slomka concluded.
Hannover are currently seventh in the league standings with 45 points while Freiburg are 13th with 36. The two teams will next be in action against Leverkusen and FC Koln respectively on Saturday, April 28.
