I'm looking for suggestions for Christian U.S. History curricula that is for a Jr. High/Sr. High level. I'm looking for something that doesn't just skim the surface of a topic, but goes in depth.

I'm looking for something that also has Holocaust information, but again doesn't just skim the surface.

Thanks for your time.

  1. My daughter is doing Sonlight's US History In Depth this year, geared toward 8-12th grade levels.  She is really enjoying it, and, yes, it definitely goes in depth.  You might at first be put off by the cost, but I found it to be worth it.  If you don't have younger children to pass it on to, the opportunity for resale on ebay is good.

  2. You may want to look into Streams of Civilization, you can order them from Christian Liberty Press, as well as other discount Christian books distributors.

    As for any specific time period in history, like the Holocaust there are always many good historical fiction books that can be added to supplement any curriculum that may not go as in dept as you'd like.

    For example for WWII

    Night, by Elie Wiesel

    Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry

    Escape from Warsaw, by Ian Serraillier

    The Endless Steppe, by Esther Hautzig

    (Japan) A Boys War, by David Michell.

    Bethlehem books has a wonderful collection of historical fiction books; three of our favorites for WWII are;

    Enemy Brothers by Constance Savery

    The Winged Watchman, and The Borrowed House both by Hilda van Stockum.

  3. Abeka is wonderful for going in depth. It is tough and thorough, nothing sugar coated. It tells all of history! I am amazed at how much they learn at the 5th grade level and I have seen the highschool material. Great for learning historical facts, presidents, and Holocaust.

  4. If you want in-depth choose Alpha Omega! It is VERY In-depth and covers 10 things in each Pac!  I Likd it when we did it!

  5. Check out My Father's World at www.mfw.com   They have just expanded their program into the high school levels, but their elementary and junior high are fantastic.

  6. Abeka is good...........
