Christian Vom Lehn triumphs in Men’s 200m breast-stroke - German World Championships Selection Trial
Christian Vom Lehn conquered the gold medal in the Men’s 200m breast-stroke on the final day of the 2011 German World Championships Selection Trial.
The German championships are a trial for the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, where SG Bayer Wup’s Vom Lehn confirmed his spot in the team to China, clinching the national title.
The 19-year-old Christian occupied the national gold, producing a wonderful time of 2:08.97 minutes. With his noteworthy timing, he remained only 1.66 seconds above the world mark of 2:07.31 minutes, set by Christian Sprenger at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
In the same manner, he was 1.33 seconds slower than the European mark of 2:07.64 minutes, made by Daniel Gyurta at the same championships. Christian’s impressive timing was only 0.66 seconds slower than the German mark of 2:08.33 minutes, set by Marco Koch
in 2009.
The national champion was in a comfortable lead of 5.70 seconds over his following swimmer, Tony Wiegmann of SSG Leipzig, who touched the wall for silver medal with a timing of 2:14.67 minutes. Paderborner SV’s Troy Arnicke followed them into the final as
the third fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 2:15.93 minutes.
Christian had a lead of almost one second over his following swimmer, as he posted a time of 29.59 seconds to overwhelm Tony’s 30.44 seconds effort. He extended his lead to 1.62 seconds in the second lap, where he finished his first round in 1:02.10 minutes
against Wiegmann’s 1:03.72 minutes.
They both continued their gruelling efforts, as Lehn earned a lead of almost three seconds in the third lap by touching the wall in 1:35.55 minutes. In the final lap, he sprinted his way towards the finishing wall, completing his lap in 33.22 seconds to
post 2:08.97 minutes on the board.
The arena commended the beautiful swims of their national stars, who were trying to oust each other for the podium finish. In addition, Christian, whose time ranks second in the 2011 early world rankings, claims to have gained much confidence with his achievement
and stated that he will work hard to perform well in the Shanghai titles.
