Christian Vom Lehn wins Men’s 100m breast-stroke – 2011 German World Championships Selection Trial
Christian Vom Lehn clinched a gold medal in Men’s 100m breast-stroke on day five of the 2011 German World Championships Selection Trial.
The championships is a selection trial for national swimmers, where the swimmers occupying the top two fastest spots in each event, will have a chance to represent their country at the 2011 World Championships, during July.
Vom Lehn defeated German record holder, Hendrik Feldwehr, but failed to improve the national record of 59.15 seconds.
He conquered the 100m breast-stroke gold medal, clocking a time of 1:00.51 minutes. He out-touched the national record holder by 0.17 seconds, as Feldwehr won the silver medal behind him with a time of 1:00.68 minutes. They were followed by SC Wiesbaden
1911’s Johannes Neumann, who settled on the podium for the bronze medal, by touching the wall in a time of 1:01.94 minutes.
The national champion was 1.93 seconds away from the world record of 58.58 seconds, held by Australian swimmer, Brenton Rickard. He remained 1.87 seconds slower than the European mark of 58.64 seconds, made by France’s Hugues Duboscq at the 2009 Rome World
Championships. Similarly, Christian was 1.36 seconds above the German mark of 59.15 seconds.
Hendrik and Johannes completed the initial laps of their swim in the top two fastest times of 28.17 and 28.49 seconds, respectively. The 18-year-old Lehn finished his first lap of the race in the third fastest place, recording an effort of 28.88 seconds.
Moment later, the teenage swimmer sprinted his way in the final lap, to overwhelm the national champion and claimed the gold medal in a time of 1:00.51 seconds. Meanwhile, Hendrik managed a lead of 1.26 seconds from Neumann, to settle on the podium for the
silver medal.
After his spectacular swim, the arena applauded for Christian’s spectacular swim, devastating the national champion. Feldwehr, who qualified for the Shanghai titles after securing the second position, was disappointed with his silver finish.
Lehn was extremely happy with his victory and claimed that he will make his country proud at the upcoming world titles.
