Christian Wade extends deal – Rugby News Update
Christian Wade, the 21-year-old England and London Wasps' winger has extended his deal with the club, which will see him through till 2015.
Great things are expected off the young winger, and with his future secured, the Wasps can build on the foundations laid down this season. The Director of Rugby at Wasps, Dai Young, was excited at having secured the services of the talented Wade for a few
more years.
"Christian is a special talent and he has been outstanding for us this season," Young said. "As a young player he still has plenty to learn and he has a real appetite for continuing to develop and improve himself."
Wade made his senior debut for England against the Barbarians on Sunday, and is expected to play an important role in Stuart Lancaster’s squad that is touring South Africa this summer. England will play a three-match test series, along with playing two other
mid-week games during the southern hemisphere tour.
Wade was equally excited at having extended his deal with the Wasps, specifically saying that the London based club has a reputation for developing young, emerging talent.
"Wasps have been my only club and I'm looking forward to the next few years here," Wade said. "I've learned an awful lot this season and I'm excited about the squad we've got for next year where hopefully we can push on and improve on the pitch.”
He has forged his reputation as one of the best finishers in the Premiership. Wade was the second highest try-scorer in the top tier of rugby in England this season, and so far he has played 17 times for the Wasps, starting all of those games.
Young also wanted to tie-down Wade to a long-term contract, saying that there is a good core of English youngster coming through the ranks, and he feels it is important to secure their future with the club.
Wade has also cited the core of young players as a reason for extending his deal. His experience with the Red Rose this summer will hold in good stead for the next season.
