Christian wins the Number one contender Battle Royal at SmackDown – WWE Recap
Four days after the retirement of Edge, Captain Charisma won the Number one contender Battle Royal match at Friday night SmackDown on 15 April.
Christian will now face Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules in a Ladder Match for an open World Heavyweight title.
The first Number one contender, Del Rio wished to be honoured with the World Title after Edge’s surrender. He said that he was the Number one contender therefore he deserved a shot at the title. General Manager Theodore Long told Del Rio that no one would
be given the title.
Del Rio was the still Number one contender and would face another opponent for the open world title at Extreme Rules. Theodore set a Battle Royal between 20 superstars and said that the winner will face Del Rio at Extreme Rules.
The Battle Royal was the last match of Friday night’s SmackDown. The match was fought between Christian, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Chris Masters, Kane, Yoshi Tatsu, Tyler Reks, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston, Brodus Clay, Chavo Guerrero,
Drew McIntyre, Curt Hawkins, Cody Rhodes, Big Show, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, Trent Barreta and JTG.
The match started while Del Rio joined the announcement table. The first person eliminated was JTG, as he was dropped over the top rope by “The World’s Largest Athlete” The Big Show. He also eliminated Trent Barreta and Tag Team Champions partner Heath Slater.
Big Show then targeted Ezekiel Jackson for elimination. He hit Jackson with a big clothesline and dropped him over the top rope, causing his own elimination as well. “The Ultimate Underdog” worked over his rival Cody Rhodes. He eliminated him and Curt Hawkins
as well. Clay, the protégé of Del Rio, eliminated Chavo Guerrero and Drew McIntyre.
Now Clay was face-to-face with “The Big Red Machine” Kane. After an impressive fight, The Ring Master heaved Clay over the top ropes. The Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett eliminated the former Inter-Continental Champion Kofi Kingston. Captain Charisma
also heaved Yoshi Tatsu and Tyler Reks as well. The members of Corre Barrett and Gabriel started to work on Kane. They both managed to eliminate Kane from the Battle Royal.
Wade Barrett eliminated another superstar Chris Master. A strange attitude was shown by the Corre when Gabriel eliminated Barrett from behind. Now only Captain Charisma, Rey Mysterio, Swagger and Gabriel were left in the ring. Mysterio eliminated Gabriel
and then started working on Swagger.
Mysterio set Swagger up for a 619 but Jack’s tag team partner Michael Cole sacrificed himself by taking a 619 on his back, giving a chance for Swagger to eliminate Mysterio. Only Christian and Swagger were left in the ring. Del Rio left the announce table
and confronted Christian, but in vain. Christian eliminated Swagger by lowering the top rope. The World Champion Edge also emerged at ring side and embraced his best friend for his huge victory.
The WWE Universe responded at the sight of both friends with a huge pop after that amazing match.
