Christiania...is it still free?

Question

I'm going to be in Copenhagen, Denmark from July 25th to July 27th...and I was hearing a good deal about the tollerance of Christiania and how unique it is to the world. I have recently been reading that Denmark's government has been clamping down on Christiania and pushing for normalization, having recently demanding the closing of Pusher Street. So I guess my question would be, is the freedom and socialistic nature of that area still in tact?

Yeah, it is...but it's not quite the same as it used to be.

As you may know, it used to be the very center of marihuana bussiness in copenhagen, but that is almost dead, because the police often raid the place...

Anyways, the general feeling there is still the same...

I don't understand why they didn't shut that place up years ago...
