Question:

Christianity: a history of "my bads" but presently perfect?

My question has nothing to do with criticism of the bible per se. It's an honest question about mistakes Christianity has made in interpreting the bible. I want to know how modern Christians can be so certain in claiming that g*y marriage, abortion, stem cell research etc. are morally wrong, when Christianity's interpretations of the bible - particularly regarding its persecution of others - have been in error on many occasions in the past.

Modern Christians condemn g*y marriage and abortion, e.g., quoting the bible to support their opinions. They state the bible is absolute truth (the same yesterday and forever), and that Christianity's interpretation of it is accurate and true. But they can't claim that this was always the case: If Yahoo Answers had been around in the 17th century, we'd be inundated with rants from Christians about Galileo's heresy for having claimed that the Earth is not a stationary object around which the sun moves (as the bible clearly states it is). And does anyone doubt we'd have dozens of posts here daily from Protestant Christians talking about witches in league with Satan? Caught up in the hysterics of the witchhunting era, if YA's Christians were transported back to the 17th century, they would be vehemently defending the churches' right to torture and execute anyone found guilty of being a witch. I think most fair-minded Christians would acknowledge this.

How can Christians claim that their current interpretations of the bible are 100% accurate?

P.S. Reform Judaism generally has a very different interpretation of the bible's condemnation of homosexuality:

And also presents a different view on the matter of abortion:
