Christians, How do you reconcile the God of the bible with the God you worship?

The God of both the Old and new testaments is a living God that talks to man.

Some people limit his words to the bible saying he cant speak anything thats not already written,

Others say He cannot talk to man except through the words of the bible

Miracles arent called down from heaven anymore, they just happen, etc...

The God of the bible interfered with human life, spoke to man, sent angels and other messengers, and was a living God, much like a man.

The God you worship doesnt seem to do much of those things. How do you reconcile that?

  1. i think that you are right and wrong. god still is involved in people's lives. surgons who have no idea how some paitens just got better out of thin air. this i have been told, (family of doctors). as far as speaking to people, i personally can atest that that does happen. I have been witness to such phenomena. not many will believe me but that is ok.

your statement that god cant speak except from what is written is wrong, bible doesnt teachthat, people do.

ask christains who have god in their life and they will say god plays a role. you want proof? Hard to do. you can see what you dont look for, cant hear if you dont listen.

  2. No problems here. He is, was and always will be a loving Father waiting anxiously for His children to pull their heads out and pay attention.

OT times, humanity had their heads pretty buried!

NT times- some people had pulled their heads out.

Now- eh... some people pulled their heads out and then promptly put it in the sand.

It's all on our shoulders. Will we listen and obey or not?

  3. It is not so difficult.

You say things do not happen any more, God doe's not appear to do much these days; what you forget is this.

That when the Lord God works, He also works on a personal level where visions and prophecies are given to an individual. These visions can be shared. I have shared a couple of visions with the minister of my church, but I have never looked for such visions and I never would. God works in His own time and chooses who He may to give visions and words of prophecies too. But, you should also remember, that such visions and words of prophecy are not something one should brag about, it is for this reason that one rarely hears of such things these days. Those who claim to have visions and words of prophecy and speak the loudest about such, are often false and not from God.

To infer that God no longer speaks or acts on behalf of His people, would be very wrong.

  4. Sorry but I have seen and experienced many miracles. I am a Pentecostal. Perhaps you could attend a Pentecostal church for a while and sse if you don't see some miracles.

You will ceratinly not see any miracles while sitting at your computer bashing Christians.

  5. God doesn't change, and hasn't stopped doing all of that.  Naturally He requires faith still, so you won't see it on primetime TV.

As Latter-Day Saints, we believe that God speaks to man as He did anciently.

The following is a quick summery and explanation of how it all started.

  6. Exactly... I think it's pretty messed up he wouldn't keep talking to us... it'd be a lot easier for all those people who are going to burn forever in h**l to accept him if he did!

Not to mention, the God most Christians worship is an all-loving God. How do they reconcile THAT with the things He did in the Bible?

    Pfft... beats me!

Edit: Bobert, I attended a Pentecostal church for many years. Actually, I reguarly attended two Pentecostal churches at different points in my life. They are very high on the emotional music and loud voices. I didn't see any "miracles" though. People falling on the floor and shaking... though I don't think any of that was anything more than people convincing themselves it was God or the Holy Spirit doing it.

And sure, people were "cured" of the occassional ear-ache or stomach virus... which is cool except I was hoping maybe God could help out all those innocent kids dying of AIDS in other countries, too...

  7. the Bible chronicles when God spoke to man which I think still happens. So it happens a lot in the Bible b/c well, that is what the Bible is about. Christ has gone, and left us the Holy Spirit. There are miracles people have claimed to have happened after the old and new testaments. just because He is not currently parting the Red Sea does not mean that he is not there.
