Christians, have you noticed that some among us still haven't let go of their eternal security blanket...?

called the law of Moses?

Have you ever noticed that some Christians hold onto the Mosaic law in their lives because they're convinced that they can't be a faithful Christian without it? And that God's grace isn't able to produce "good works" in our lives? Have you seen people do this? And if so, doesn't it seem like they have very LITTLE faith and confidence in the grace of God or the power of the Holy Spirit to enable them to live out Holy lives? Doesn't it seem like these folks haven't totally surrendered to Christ and are kinda having a spiritual affair with the law? What do you think?

  1. Obviously, you don't understand what omniscient and omnipotent means.  You really don't understand your god do you?

  2. Isn't Christianity one big eternal security blanket anyways?

  3. Hey. :) I am understanding more and more that the reason the gospel is an offense to people is the idea of *salvation by faith alone*. Even Christians feel the need to make it somehow man-centric and about works.

Time and again I've noticed non-Christians saying things like, "Well, I guess I can kind of respect such and such denomination because they believe in works and faith. But faith alone? That's such a lazy way that totally relies on someone else."

I think it is a daily struggle for Christians to accept that the Christian life is about *God's* power --- and not about willpower.

God doesn't want it to be about what we've done. If we could earn it somehow, then it wouldn't be as obviously miraculous as it is. Really it's the culmination of Gideon's army of 300.

Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

I hadn't thought about this: "Doesn't it seem like these folks haven't totally surrendered to Christ and are kinda having a spiritual affair with the law?"

But you make a good point. Remember how sexual sin and idolatry brings curses into our lives (one is the mirror of the other) and also how in Galatians we see that anyone who tries to be saved by the law is under a curse!

  4. I understand your question and do agree...but we cant leave out any truth even if it seems trivial to us...

    Ephesians 2

[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

    James 2

[17] Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

[18] Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

[19] Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

[20] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

[21] Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

[22] Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

[23] And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

[24] Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

[25] Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

[26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

just wanted to say what a very good answer KG gave...

I have been studying a little more as of late and the inspired word of God is a very wonderful book of Love...I have started to understand more about the Love our Father has for us...He has given us everything we need to find Him...His only begotten Son, the Bible, the Holy Spirit and his Word written on our hearts and in our souls yet we struggle to find Him...

  5. They might be born again, but the umbilical cord hasn't been cut yet.  So they did at some time totally committed to Christ (Some haven't so aren't real Christians) so are sealed of the Holy Spirit as children of God. But they don't trust & obey God enouph to be filled with the Holy Ghost.

To be free from religiosity, one needs the cord cut. And to trust God & be overfilled by His Spirit. Being sealed by the Holy Ghost until redemption isn't enough. One need to be filled with the Holy Spirit & receive the spiritual gifts necessary to discern spiritual & righteousness. And then choose to die to the destructive lust of the flesh & follow after the Spirit (even above the biblical letters).  The Spirit doesn't lead us contrary to the biblical direction but may seem like it at first.  Gods Spirit always proves true & in accordance with the bible & Word of God in the test of time.

My eternal security blanket isn't the law of Moses. He is the Holy Spirit who gives me assurance that I am Father Gods child.

  6. Silly Christians trying to live like it's 4000 years in the past.  Poor survival strategy on their part, heh heh!

  7. If a person were to make a study of the whole bible, they would discover that they would have more spiritual success and deepen their relationship with God.  They would find that at 2 Timothy 3:16, 17, it states that ALL scripture is inspired of God and beneficial, making the man of God competent and completely equipped for every good work.  Many of the Mosaic Laws still applied under the new Law Covenant, such as abstaining from blood, fornication and idol worship. I grew up with grandparents who believed that it was a sin to do laundry on the the Sabbath.  I definitely find it disheartening that some chose to cling to only one portion of the bible.  They are missing out on a lot of wonderful information.

  8. Christians dont' notice that.

Atheists point it out about every 3 questions though.

  9. Sister kl has answered beautifully.

As for me, yes, I noticed too. I used to be like one of them when I was born again in 2002. As a new Christian who grew up in a church that preached a mixture of law and grace, I felt like I was a failure in keeping the law of Moses. Nothing good I do is ever good enough, and I felt easily condemned.

I was very blessed then, to have been invited by a colleague to my present church in 2003, where the pure gospel of grace is preached. The truth of the gospel has opened my eyes to see the goodness and love of our Lord Jesus, and set me free from the bondage of sin, legalism and self-righteousness.

Having been set free from these bondages, my heart goes out to my brothers and sisters in Christ who have not heard the gospel of grace or do not believe they are righteous by faith, and are still trying to obey the law of Moses to be justified and blessed. This is the main reason I am here in Yahoo Answers - to testify to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to encourage my brethren in the Lord.

    God bless you, brother Blue.
