how am i to take it that exodus 12:46 is a prophecy about the crucifixion of jesus, when the whole verse is not taken into account?

the verse reads:

"It must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones."

assuming this is indeed a prophecy about the crucifixion of jesus, and assuming that jesus was nailed through his hands and feet without having a single bone broken, shouldn't the crucifixion have been held indoors? the verse clearly says, "...take none of the meat outside the house,..." but jesus was crucified outside. should we just ignore this glaring contradiction? or should we look for some way of justifying how this doesn't contradict the "prophecy"?

  1. You miss the point of the passage. To eat inside means that the Passover Lamb could not be shared outside the House of Israel. It was for the faithful only. The Passover Lamb is a “type” of Christ, who cannot be shared with anyone outside the Christian faith. In other words, if you want the benefits of knowing Jesus, you’ve got to come inside His house.

  2. I never heard that verse interpreted as prophetic. It was one of the Psalms, I think, that said, Not a bone of him shall be broken.

You gotta be careful, Protestants especially get all worked up about finding connections where none are intended.

  3. I think it will make more sense if you look at the section in context. They are regulations for Passover and more specifically for preparing the Passover lamb. Jesus is often compared with the Passover lamb. Because of this comparison it now becomes symbolic and metaphorical and not literal all it's respects. And there are some parts of it that  just are straightforward regulations having to do with the preparations for Passover.

  4. I don't think this implies the passover lamb was slain in the house at all, neither was Jesus.

  5. I think it's a stretch to take that as a prophecy of Jesus. You shouldn't have to contort scripture to make it meaningful.

  6. This is referring to the passover in which the Israelites were to put blood of a lamb on their doors so that the spirit of death would pass their house and not kill them.

This could be considered a prophecy in the fact that Jesus Christ would be the lamb that takes away the sin of the world, and that he would not break a single bone. The house could be in reference to the holy spirit in the case of Jesus Christ. The bible oftentimes foreshadows events that will happen in the future and this is one of them.

  7. okay lets see if I can remember how this was explained to me...

eaten inside one house means......that the sacrifice of Jesus was for all of Israel...and that included the gentiles as well ...

take none of the meat outside the house...means.... that the salvation was not for the "world"

do not break any of the bones means.... well, none of his bones were broken according to the story, so the sacrifice was considered intact.

Also is thought by some to represent not doing wrong so as to not bring shame on the Lord (breaking the bones of the sacrificial lamb)

  8. I do not see how this passage is a prophecy.

  9. Isn't ALL of the bible a matter of "pick and choose" with Xians?

After all, I've never heard of a Xian stoning their child to death for disobeying even though you're told to do so by your bible.
