  1. Burden of proof doesn't apply here.  The Bible doesn't say to accept God's existence as proven.  God simply asks us to seek Him.  While we don't know for sure whether He exists or not, we do know that we'll never find Him unless we do seek Him.

So the atheist has chosen not to seek God on the assumption (belief) that He doesn't exist.  But that is an unprovable belief.  So the atheist lives in faith in an unprovable belief, just as the Christian does.  Two possibilities, God exists or He doesn't, and both are unprovable.  Burden of proof is irrelevant.

  2. Because in order to say that God doesn't exist, you would have to have first knowledge of the fact. you would have to know how the universe started, how life started, when it began, when it will end...

Not just guesses, actual knowledge. so when you say there is no God, where's your proof?

  3. I don't say "Prove God doesn't exist". The burden of proof is on both sides, why do you think this ludicrous argument has been going on for so long?

It seems every time I come in here I see at least 3 questions that involve either a "burden of proof",  "my belief is better than your non-belief", "you're a stupid Fundie" ,"you're a stupid Athiest" or the all time great statement------Prove me wrong!!!  You have to love that one. It just gives a person a warm fuzzy doesn't it?

Honestly the last couple of week's in here has been painful to witness. Not only has the quality of questions taken a nose dive but the answers are rehashes of last months land fill. The Atheist and Christian behavior in here has been atrocious, malevolent, asinine, and borderline Ringling Brothers Circus. The ego-jousts are probably the worst of all. These people bring in the 15 inch Howitzers. WW2 has nothing on these people.

It really is time to take off the diapers, ditch the pacifier and head on over to the Clampetts for some possum belly and humble pie.

  4. the burden of proof isn't on us just the fact of detail and beauty i the world in itself is proof of Gods existence. what sounds more reasonable? a explosion came out of nothing and the universe was just poofed into existence, or that a Higher being made everything

  5. "there is no burden of proof" lol, i love that answer.

the most likely answer is that they don't understand logic, and hold the brakes all ye christians who are angered that i think u don't understand logic! when i say logic, i'm not talking about common sense. Logic has RULES that must be obeyed. The burden of proof is one of these rules of logic.

Logically, you have the burden of proof. By dismissing your burden of proof, you are giving me permission to say you don't understand logic. Also, by using the logical fallacy of trying to place the burden of proof unduly upon atheists, you also show me that u dont understand logic.

Also, please consider... have u ever tried disprooving Ra? Try disproving the toothfairy... its impossible. you cannot disprove somethings existence. This is why it is the default position: Ra, toothfiary, santa claus  and God do not exist unless proven otherwise

  6. The burden of proof of God's existence is on God.  He left many convincing proofs of His existence.  This great creation alone speaks the existence of One far greater than ourselves. But, for those who do not want Him, there are theories attempting to prove He does not exist.

The deal is that there are people who do not want to be accountable to a holy and righteous God.  So, they say He does not exist.  Just by simply saying, "I do not believe.", seems to make Him go away.  Then, in order to further their desire to do away with God, they ask Christians to prove His existence.

Yet, they cannot prove He does not exist.  So, unless there is 100% absolute proof that He does not exist, the question will remain.

  7. Some people believe in God/Goddess, some don't.

God or Goddess may not exist for people, but She exists for ME, and that's okay.

  8. For all those who are asking "Why should we have to prove god exists?"

It's because you keep telling us he does, and try to get us to believe. If you want me to believe something, you have to show me proof.

To spread the word of ANYTHING, you must have proof to support your claim, or you have no right spreading such words.

Atheists do have evidence of the non-existence of god. Christians have no evidence to the contrary. This whole "once you accept him, you will see/feel the truth" or "once you accept him, you will experience him" is bull, and a lot of us atheists know this for a fact. I was a christian in my youth, a fairly devout one at that, and, when I became atheist, I felt no loss of a feeling of love, I lost no feeling of knowledge, or comfort.

Nothing changed about or in me except my beliefs.

You have the burden of proof because you are claiming the reality of something. The existence of something.

To turn the tables, let's say you don't believe in aliens, and I do. It is my responsibility, if I want you to believe in aliens as well, to prove to you that I'm not smoking a crack pipe, that they do actually exist. It wouldn't be up to you to disprove them. The very fact that no one has seen them is proof enough for that.

Sorry, but he's right. Either put your money where your mouth is, or remove your mouth from mine ears.

  9. Proof is actually a two-sided burden. Your goal is prove that He does not exist; ours is to prove that He does exist. It is darn hard to prove something exists if there isn't evidence that it doesn't, and vice versa.

  10. He's real! We can all feel his presence there is no need to prove anything. Try taking to God it will help you shake all the negativity off.

  11. There is no burden of proof, if you dont want to give God a chance to show you He exists then that's your problem. When we speak to you about God its with good intentions, because we've seen what he does to broken lives and we are trying to help you. I'm sorry if you don't see it that way, but I hope some day you will.

  12. The proof of God is everywhere, and you know it. For the truth about God is known to you instinctively. For God put this knowledge in your heart, before you were born.

  13. According to who?  You?

  14. Why do you say the burden of "proof" is on Christians?  We are not obligated to prove anything.

The great commission is to go into all the world and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ.   its up to YOU to believe it or not!  it's your eternity that's at stake here not mine!

  15. Cougar, buddy, pal,  it is not up to the Atheists to prove anything.  The Christians are saying God is real and Jesus was his son.  Okay, you made a statement, now prove that statement. Until you can prove it, we have the right to call you on it.  Just like if I was to say I had an Invisible Dragon living in my garage, you would naturally ask me to prove it.  It wouldn't be up to you to prove he doesn't.  BTW, I do have an Invisible dragon.  He breaths fire and poops marshmallows!  I have the marshmallows to proove it.  They're Yummy!!!

  16. *drinks*

We already covered that one today...

    (((yawn)))

  17. I don't bother laying that challenge down as I am quite secure in my belief in God.

If you knew Him you would have proof of Him. If you searched half as much for Him as you do trying to prove your beloved "theory", you'd have your proof in no time.

  18. Cos they are NOT real bright.

They have no idea that following the 'logic' of "prove god DOESN'T exist" opens the door to saying that any one of the thousands of invisible sky critters, and other fictional characters that have been invented since forever, also exist.

    ~

  19. Because we know that God exists and we want you to be able to find out for yourself that He exists as well. We want you to do research to prove He doesn't exist , because we know you will prove that He does. :)

  20. As a Christian, I don't like it when another christian says something ignorant like that, rather than studying the facts for themselves to give a proper argument.

The studying of science, the bible, etc in order to provide educated arguments and to counter questions that are against the bible is called "Biblical Apologetics"

  21. Why are you asking this question instead of proving to ME that the flying spaghetti monster DOESN'T exist?

Since you can't prove he doesn't exist, I reason that it takes just as much faith TO believe in the flying spaghetti monster as it does to NOT believe in him.

  22. During the time of Jesus, even though he did so many miracles and wonders, many still wanted more evidence. Nature itself is already proof that God exist, because simply that's what His Word (the Bible) says, but we got use to seeing Nature that we simply just don't really care that God made all that. Now, I can be honest with you, and tell you plainly, that we cannot show you GOD. It's His own choice to reveal Himself to whomever He wishes. And one more thing, we cannot disprove His existence. There are many forces at work here, God is just different from us, the Bible says that He is Holy and we are sinful, so His Holiness is like fire that if ever He reveals Himself in Visible form in front of us, we will DIE. I hope this helps...I highly suggest that it's better that you personally ask God to reveal himself to you...sincerely of course...and I'm sure somehow He will...but u have to really humble yourself in doing so... It's between you and your Creator...=D

  23. My life has been changed...both with my effort and without it by the power of the Holy Spirit.  I am an eyewitness to it...and that is but my first point of evidence.

  24. 2 Peter 1

16We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."[a] 18We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

19And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

  25. Because to those of us who believe in God, He has already demonstrated His reality to us.

Here's the catch.  You see, God said, "If you seek for me, then you shall find me, if you search for me with all your heart (with an honest and humble heart), and I will be found of you, says the Lord."

He said that He will reveal Himself to the humble, but He also said that He would hide Himself from the proud, the arrogant, the mocker, the skeptic, and the scoffer alike.  (It means that if you can't find God you need look no farther than your own heart to figure out why you can't find Him.)

Jesus even said that if you REALLY want to know if his teaching was from God (implying the existence of said God), or just the words of a mere human, then  OBEY  THESE  COMMANDS, and you shall know.  You can start with the Sermon on the Mount, starting in Chapter 5 of the gospel according to Matthew.

But the problem here, the catch, is that this IS the proof, but skeptics don't really want it, because that would mean they would have to change their life style, and they just aren't ready for that.

Jesus said that the reason people won't come to him is "because their deeds are evil, and they love darkness over the light."

In other words, the only reason people don't believe in God is because they don't WANT to believe in God, and there is no proof in all the universe for someone who's mind is set in concrete like that.

So, since you won't accept the proof, the "litmus paper test", the "acid test", then we ask YOU to give US proof.

  26. Because atheists or agnostics are always demanding proof. They expect God to jump out of corn field and say 'I'm as real as your pick-up truck.' There are many ways to prove God exists and that God doesn't. If you really want to know if he exists then this will make you stop your truck:

'The ontological argument purports to be an a priori proof of God's existence. St. Anselm one of the most important Christian thinkers starts with premises that do not depend on experience for their justification and then proceeds by purely logical means to the conclusion that God exists. His aim is to refute the fool who says in his heart that there is no God (Psalms 14:1). This fool has two important features.

    1. He understands the claim that God exists.

    2. He does not believe that God exists.

Anselm's goal is to show that this combination is unstable. Anyone who understands what it means to say that God exists can be led to see that God does exist. On this view, the atheist is not just mistaken: his position is internally inconsistent.

That is just a small piece of that argument. There are more arguments but this is one of the simplest.

  27. Where do you get that "burden of proof is on you" c**p?  What authority proclaimed that the burden of proof is on Christians to scientifically prove that God exists?

I'll make a deal with you.  I'll do my best to prove to atheists that God exists but you have to prove to me that atheists exist and I want the same kind of proof that you're demanding.  Once you prove to me that atheists exist then I'll present my case.

  28. I never say that. I think those are trolls. No one can prove he doesn't exist. I think some responses are that you can't prove a negative. Something about imaginary fairies inside your yard pushing up grass growing..  that no one could disprove that. I always thought it was because grass was alive, but I'll just shut my trap and take my 20 negatives from making the trolls mad. God will reveal himself to you somehow man, it just may not be the time for it now. I know it's hard to believe in something that hasn't revealed itself, and God knows that too. If we have an all-powerful God up there, I'm sure he will give you a fair chance to believe upon him.

  29. Follow the rules of logic! The oldest trick in the book.

  30. At best it is a shared burden, don't you think?

Because if God does exist, shouldn't it matter to you? Would your behavior change if you knew he did exist?

Are you so convinced that he doesn't exist that you are willing to depend on me to "prove" his existence to you?

  31. because the way life works is like domino's one domino has to push the next one to fall right? but you can't just sit there and expect them to start falling. first you have to push the first one. god is the the one who sets up the domino's and and then pushes them something have to have started this planet. how can any one prove that wrong???
