Question:

Christians: Do angels still have free will?

I know you believe that Satan was an angel who rebelled against God and was kicked out of heaven, so I was wondering whether or not the other angels still have the ability to do the same, and could another rebellion happen? If you so no, please provide scripture to support why not.

  1. Satan did rebel against God and took 1/3 of the Angels with him but he still has access to Heaven and God's Prescence (See Book of Job).  Angels do have free will and there are many examples of this in the Bible.  Here is one example:

    1. Genesis 19- the angels met Abraham at the Gate of Sodom and Gomorrah and were inclined to sleep in the street but after Abraham requested that they accompany him into his house they obliged.

In regards to a rebellion happening again, I don't see any scripture reference to a rebellion.  What I do see is the exact opposite which is a jubilent celebration!

  2. Neh 9:6; Col 1:16

    Neh 9:6; Phl 2:9-11; Hbr 1:6

    1Ki 19:5; Psa 68:17; 104:4; Luk 16:22; Act 12:7-11; 27:23; Hbr 1:7,14

    Dan 8:16,17; 9:21-23; 10:11; 12:6,7; Mat 2:13,20; Luk 1:19,28; Act 5:20; 8:26; 10:5; 27:23; Rev 1:1

    Psa 103:20; Mat 6:10

    Num 22:22; Psa 103:21; Mat 13:39-42; 28:2; Jhn 5:4; Rev 5:2

    2Sa 24:16; 2Ki 19:35; Psa 35:5,6; Act 12:23; Rev 16:1

    Job 38:7; Psa 148:2; Isa 6:3; Luk 2:13,14; Rev 5:11,12; 7:11,12

    Psa 68:17; Act 7:53; Hbr 2:2

  3. angels do have free will, just as satan did. i guess another 'rebellion' could happen.

    hope these help

Jude- 5Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord[c] delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

1 corinthians 6:3-Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

angels can sin and they will be judged. here it says they will be cast in darkness.

  4. Approaching the Bible as literature, It seems logical to me that God, for some reason, allowed or created circumstances wherein there was a physical realm near our own, which he created and could also inhabit. In this realm his subjects, which he created, have free will as in our realm.

Apparently, there will be a time, according to the literature, where all of God's creation will be merged with him through marriage. I think it's kinda like Kundalini or even Hinduism.

In this state, rebellion would be an impossibility. It would be like rebelling against yourself--seems pantheistic to me, although I doubt many Christians would agree.

  5. I asked a couple of similar question not too long ago. Below are the links if you interested in the answers.  Angels are given freewill, I know this because I used to be a Christian and have read the bible quite a few times to try and make sense of things.  That is why I am a skeptic now.  But anyway, from what I gather from the responses I received on my questions, the Christians will disagree with that logic because the bible does not state anything about another rebellion.  They really do not know how to think outside the box...or should I say "book". So, to answer your question, yes the ability is there.  And actually there is a verse in Revelations that suggests angels are still getting tossed down from heaven.

  6. Well obviously scripture really doesn't address this, does it? And I suspect you're more trolling than seriously asking a question, but a) yes, all sentient creatures have free will; that in itself is answer enough for do other angels have that potential.  However, angels are not changeable creatures like people, so I would say the first rebellion cleared out all the bad apples, and so a second rebellion is not possible.

If only the Yahoo admins could do the same.
