Christians: Do you believe in Psychics?

I'm curious to know if christians believe in psychics? Whenever someone on R&S asks a question regarding psychics, i often see christians reply with No, they arnt real.

However....i have just learned that many people try to prove christianity by so called 'prophecies' in the bible, that have appeared to come true. Well a prophecy is a prediction, so surely whoever predicted this and wrote it in the bible, was a psychic?

So...do you believe in psychics?

  1. No I don't believe in physics because I'm a stupid Christian. I can't understand why those original authors of the bible - who we all know were scientists - didn't read Darwin or Galileo. If the ancients had just read these guys first then people wouldn't have to use their common sense.

  2. Yes i believe they are real because the Bible says so. These people get their information revealed to them by evil spirits. In Acts, we find Paul casting out a spirit that caused a lady to do fortune telling.

Once the spirit was cast out, she could no longer do it. She lost her job and could not make money anymore.

Prophecies in the Bible are different. They are done by the God himself. God has revealed to mighty men of God, future plans etc.

    But if there's a real there's always a counterfeit.

Psychics are counterfeits, to try deceive people into the New Age Religion.

  3. yes i believe in physics.. just think of a mountain, physics is still at the foot while our faith lies in the summit.. physics explains things while faith already understands all..

  4. Most are fakes and frauds. Those who do seem to have some type of powers are never 100 percent correct in every detail 100 percent of the time- unlike the Bible- and receive any powers they do possess from Satan. Only God knows the future. Satan makes educated guesses. Sometimes he gets lucky and guesses right, most of the time he makes at least 1 error. To be a true prophet of God you must be 100 percent accurate 100 percent of the time and you must believe and support the teachings of the Bible- the Bible itself gives these things as qualifiers for a true prophet.

  5. Psychics dont attribute their 'ability' to God; they may say that some spirits help them, but not God.

Prophecy in the Bible were successfully written down by people, who by the grace of God, were allowed to see the future by God.

  6. there is no proof psychics exist, they are fake and con artists. gypsies claim they can curse people but that is fake, if they had powers that minapulate whatever causes good and bad fortune then they wouldnt be poor.

  7. Tricky question but yes, if you describe 'prophecies' as psychics. There are people who are so close to Jesus who can directly hear/think/sense His will as conveyed by the Holy Spirit. Having said that, I do believe that some people other than what I've described before who have been given a 'special gift' (but don't ask me how) as what you call as psychic. But as there are false prophets, there are also a lot of false psychics.

  8. Yes, psychics have a place in history and in daily life. Some are very good, others are not, some are honest, others may not be. But this happens in all walks of life so it's wise to put things in perspective. There's a British psychic lady, can't recall her name just now, who spends her time helping parents who have lost a child, and she's such a kindly, considerate human being. -- just looked up the name, it's Rosemary Altea, very British! -- I think there should be balanced judgment in this. One does hear about the police using psychics to help solve a crime. Anyways, I think they are doing good work. Not all are dishonest, so give them their due.

About the prophecies of the Bible, I don't read it so can't really comment. However, everybody has finer senses that need to be developed. Some already have them and use their gifts for mankind. It isn't anything special or supernatural, it's just a natural process that man's senses will one day be much more highly developed. The only evil in that is the evil someone thinks of it. Let's view this with some straight thinking.

  9. All forms of spiritism are strongly condemned in the Bible.

No human can speak to the dead, Eccl. 9:5,6,10: "The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all...Also, their love and their hate and jealousy have already perished, and they have no protion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun. All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [the grave], the place to which you are going."

So the truth about the condition of the dead is clearly stated in the Bible.

Please read Gal. 5:19-21: "The works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, idolatry, practice of spiritism...As to these things I am forewarning you,the same way as I did forewarn you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God's Kingdom."

Lev. 19:31: "Do not turn yourselves to the spirit mediums, and do not consult professional foretellers of events, so as to become unclean by them.  I am Jehovah your God."

Such spiritistic practices actually involved turning to Satan and his demons for help.

Deut. 18:10-12: "There should not be found in you anyone who...employs divination, a practicer of magic or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead.  For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah." (Divination seeks to disclose hidden knowledge or to foretell events, not as a result of research, but by the interpretation of omens or by the help of supernatural powers.  Jehovah God prohibited such practices among his servants. Why? All these practices are an invitation to communication with or possession by unclean spirits, or demons.  Engaging in such things would be gross unfaithfulness toward Jehovah God.)

Please read also Gen. 6:1-4 and Matt. 4:8.

Proverbs 18:10; and 1 Cor. 210:21: "You cannot be partaking of 'the table of Jehovah' and the table of demons."

    Acts 19:19; James 4:7.

  10. Psychics are dangerous and sometimes try to communicate with the dead.

That is basically the worst thing that you can do.

NO ONE can tell what will happen in the future but God, but he may give dreams or give people thoughts to what may happen.

My mum regrets goign to the Psychic, she said be careful with water and your children, that night when my mum told me this the night before I had a dream my sister would drown..so it was a bit freaky but nothing has happened yet. But they are dangerous..

  11. There is a big difference between a psychic and a Prophet of God.

Most psychics are fakes trying to make money.

Many will remember that lady who used to advertize on TV so much, Lady Cleo.  And when she was arrested for perpatrating a fraud on the public she was quoted by the police as saying, "I never saw this coming."

Those who claim to be pschic who have real supernatural power today, get that power from Satan or one of Satan's associates.  We call those associates, demons.

That is very different from someone who is a child of God, worships Jesus, has repented of their sins, respects the authority of God's Word, (the Bible) and has been given a Prophetic from the Holy Spirit.

The Bible was written by Holy Men who were moved along by the Holy Spirit.  And what is in the Bible today has already been proven to be true.  False prophets wrote things but their writings have never been included in the Bible.

True prophets today operate in the context of a local church where their are other Elders who judge the validity of their Prophet Words according to the rules llaid down in First Corinthians.

  12. There are plenty of Christians who believe psychics are real. However they believe that the person is using the demonic to receive that information.

They believe the prophets were given their visions (and so their prophecies) directly from God. Just like they believe the Bible is "inspired word". By that they mean that the person who was writing the story was only doing the action of writing. They believe "the holy spirit" entered them and gave them the words they were to write down. They didn't come up with the words or stories themselves, they were just used to write them down. That's why they believe the Bible is flawless and 100% accurate, and why they call it "The Word of God".

Some of these types also believe that magicians are real, and that some of their tricks employ demonic powers to be achieved.

And yes, I am totally serious. My own parents believe these things. They also believed that certain haircuts were demonic because when I had them, I seemed to act out more than usual. These "demonic haircuts" were thus banned in the house.

  13. The Bible strongly condemns the practice of spiritism, mediums, occult, psychics, etc. (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). Horoscopes, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, palm readings, séances, etc., fall into this category as well. These practices are based on the concept that there are gods, spirits, or deceased loved ones that can give you advise and guidance. These “gods” or “spirits” are demons (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). The Bible gives us no reason to believe that deceased loved ones can, or would even want to contact us. If they were believers, they are in heaven, enjoying the most wonderful place imaginable – in fellowship with a loving God. If they were not believers, they are in h**l, suffering the un-ending torment for rejecting God’s love and rebelling against Him.

  14. We know psychics exist but the demons give them their information, not God.

  15. Nope.
