Question:

Christians: Do you think that it's important that your avatars on the internet be dressed modestly?

As a Christian woman, I believe that it's important to behave, and dress like you're not looking for attention from other men (and possibly other women's husbands!).

I also play the game "Second Life". I wear what I think is pretty, because I never really thought that modesty was an issue... I mean, I don't dress like a street walker or anything, but just generally pretty things that I would never EVER wear in real life. Not like lingerie or anything though.

I was taken aback when one character asked me why I, as a Christian would dress like I do. I told him I didn't think it mattered if it's only an avatar.

He said that my avatar reflects who I am as a person, and if I didn't want to dress like that in RL, I wouldn't do it, and that's what everyone else thinks too.

That's really not the case, I WOULD dress like that in RL if men weren't so easily distracted by it, but is that really the same case in a game like second life?

Basically... is modesty important in dress on the internet?

Thanks!

  1. I think it does matter

  2. I never really thought about it. To me it doesn't matter.

  3. I believe all things about us should reflect who we are everywhere.

  4. I believe it matters.. Because it would be sending the message that you approve of such apparel... Hope this helped..God bless you !

  5. Yes, I do think that it's important.  Even though it may "just be online", it still is a representative of who and what we are.  As Christians, we shouldn't walk thin lines, we should always be true to what we believe, even in our avatars.

  6. Who would want to look at a naked avatar?

  7. Nope.  Not really.

  8. 1. s*x isn't bad.

    2. Humans are meant to have s*x

    3. Human males are meant to have s*x with as many females as possible.  This creates genetic diversity, and helps strengthen the species against disease and natural threats.

    4. Women (ideally) should wear whatever will attract the strongest, most intelligent, most aggressive, most ambitious males they can, to ensure they have strong, intelligent, aggressive, ambitious children who will propagate their DNA.

This is how NATURE works, and how natures WANTS IT.  This is what would be best for the human species.  It's only society and cultural mores that dictate that women should cover their bodies and behave modestly.  Half the reason this world is so stressed out and screwed up is because religions try to force people to suppress their natural urges, as though they are sick or evil.  Why do you suppose Catholic priests s***w alter boys?

Wear what ever the h**l makes you happy, in real life or online.  Just use your head, and be discriminating before you have s*x with the men you attract.

    EDIT:

Liberty, that's a specious argument for monogamy.  Less than ten percent of mammals are sexually monogamous, and they are obviously not dying from STDs.  Natural selection works much better to strengthen the gene pool when members are polygamous.

While most human societies "claim" to be monogamous, the truth is far removed.  Most people have s*x with many different partners before they are married, and plenty of people continue to do it AFTER they are married.  We just close our eyes and pretend this isn't the case.  Homosapian, and his ancestors spent many tens of thousands of years being polygamous, and the species thrived!  While polygamy might seem like it would lead to the downfall of civilization, the truth is, it's been going on in one form or another since the beginning of time.  We just deny it more nowadays.

Personally, I'm not an advocate of polygamy, but it IS in our nature.  To deny this is silly, and when you pit moral conscience against instinct, instinct will win every time.

So like I said, wear what makes you happy, and don't be ashamed of being a sexual creature.  You are, no matter how much society, or religion, or modesty, or humility, or your parents, or anyone else tries to tell you you aren't.

    (PS - I too, am a Libertarian.)

  9. I am so grateful that I wasn't drinking anything when I read that I nearly thanked god.

  10. An answer for Printninja....Jesus DID die for you...You know you will eventually grow old and die...Why? Because you have inherited the 'death' gene from Adam and Eve. the Bible does not say this exactly, but it does say it is because of their disobedience that we DO die.

    Genesis 2; 16.17

Jesus' death as a sacrifice has PAID to have death removed....Revelation 21; 4

But only the righteous will benefit.

Would you empty out your pockets on a no hoper.?

    Neither will Jesus.

We have to show him we are NOT no hopers.

    By obedience.

    Matthew 28; 19,20

Look up the scrip[tures and see that they do make sense.
