Question:

Christians: Have you researched the history of your faith against the history of Judaism?

Do you and have you found it necessary to study Judaism and the original Tanakh (not the Christian OT) before dismissing it.

Does it matter to you when someone questions your faith, sincerely, and you may not know how to respond? (i.e. no evidence of Jesus ever existing as a man much less a God-man, can you provide any or does it matter to you?)

Does this push you to research your beliefs further?

  1. there are lots of jewish writings form old scripts that refer to christ.plus the old testament has about 48 prophecies  that refer to jesus christ. theres no misstake jesus is the christ the messiah. buy the way the odds of one man fullfilling all 48 prophecies is 1 out of a trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion x trillion. 11 of them. thats more than all the atoms put together on the planet earth.

  2. Nope it doesn't. I'm good with what God has taught me. Thanx for asking tho.

  3. Go somewhere alone, quiet, without distractions.

Pray to Jesus in simple child like faith, confessing you are a sinner.  Be humble in your attitude; have no negative feelings at all; be open hearted.  You will feel the Lord's presence; then you will know.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life."

  4. I may do that sometime.  The history of Judaism is intertwined with and the first half of the history of Christianity.

  5. The Catholic Church has always been open to rigorous examination on all fronts. It is evident that the judaism as we know today is not the hebrew faith of Abraham.Catholicism is the continuation of the true hebrew faith fulfilled by Christ.

Nothing keeps an argument going then some who has no idea what they are talking about. The annointed has come and gone. The gentiles have accpeted the honour of protecting and preserving the faith of our fathers.

On an unbiased note we universals have the true religion but the true religion runs in the blood of the jews they are the original olive stock, however displaced by pride !

They are and always will be the chosen people but must accept the redeemer. When a jew converts to catholicism they leave us for dead in terms of sanctity and tenacity because they are grafted back to what they were chosen for.

If it is truth your looking for but don't want to accept it stay away from the universals as they are or should be quite learnt in matters of their beloved faith.

They (jews if converted)are the heavyweights of Christianity !

  6. HAHAHA! you know, I was brought up Christian, but I never actually WAS a Christian, I mean,  never knew all the commandments or such. I actually researched alot about Christians and their history, as well as the Bible and its passages...I am now an Athiest.

  7. Yes. Jesus was a Jew, however, He did not ask us to become Jews. His offer is the sam for all of us

I have done my home work

  8. Hello, Hope:

Yes, I've researched it and have read 10 different translations of the Bible cover to cover, including the Holy Scriptures published by the Jewish Publication Society of America--read Isaiah 53 again and note the sacrificial human offering who died for our sins.

You see, all the way from Eden, where Adam received his bride through a wounded side to Abraham offering his son on Mt Moriah pointed to Jesus the Lamb of God with a wounded side to receive His church. And, Yes, it happened that God offered the Sacrifical Lamb on Mt. Moria almost 2,000 years after Abram's sacrifice there.

But the Pharisees and priests rejected His mission as you do but, Just to strengthen your faith in the Sacrifice of the Messiah, God sealed Daniel 12--read it and you won't understand it.

Then read http://abiblecode.com to see that He was exactly who He said He is.

Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

  9. I have received my faith through confirmation. Sincerely, before finding Christ truly finding Him I was lost. I could tell you that I just learned of the power of the cross. The Holy Spirit is a gift given to us, we only need to accept it. Through experiencing the powerful anointing of the Lord--I have no questions, I just believe.

  10. Yes I'm probably would study the original Tanakh.

  11. Yes, I think it is important for Christians to have a good understanding of Judaism.  You may have experienced that some (or even many) Christians seem to discount Judaism.  It's wrong of them to do so, because Judaism and Christianity share a belief in the one true God, and Jesus is reported in the New Testament book of Matthew to have said, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."  (Matthew 5:17)  So, anyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ needs to seek to understand Judaism.

My understanding of Tanakh is that it contains the same texts as the Christian OT, but organizes the information somewhat differently (such as not dividing Samuel into 2 books).  I haven't studied the original Hebrew, but nor have I dismissed the Law and the Prophets.  After all, these writings make up 2/3 of my Bible.

It should always matter when someone questions matters of faith, because we want to be led by reason, not by feelings or mere acceptance of what we were raised to believe.  As to your example, however, what of the many New Testament accounts of the life of Jesus?  I would postulate that there is more evidence that Jesus truly existed and walked the earth than there is that King David did.  But, I don't question that King David existed.  Neither do I question that Jesus existed.  The question becomes, then, is what was written of him reliable?  Does it bear scrutiny?  Does it have implications and applications for my own life?

And yes, all of this motivates me to continue to research and study.  After all, these are the only questions that are of eternal consequence.

  12. Of course we have.

What about you?  Have you researched the history of Judaism in light of Christianity? I offer the same challenge to you:

  13. no...because I LOVE JUDAISM

  14. You are correct. Our faith should be questioned. The Bible encourages talking about our faith. Colossians 4:6 says, "Be pleasant and hold their interest when you speak the message. Choose your words carefully and be ready to give answers to anyone who asks questions."

We should research our beliefs and not just accept what someone says. Acts 17:11 says, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

I need to search the scriptures to see what you are saying is true.

Yes, what you are questioning does push me to research my beliefs further.

As far as evidence of "Jesus existing as a man" in the "old testament" or the original Tanakh, I'd like to explain who Jesus is to us. Once I define who Jesus is, then I can better present this definition of Jesus in the Old Testament or the original Tanakh. According to Wikipedia, the  Trinity is a Christian doctrine, stating that God exists as three persons, or in the Greek hypostases, but is one being. The persons are understood to exist as God the Father, God the Son (incarnate as Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Since the beginning of the third century the doctrine of the Trinity has been stated as "that the one God exists in three Persons and one substance, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity

My point is that a lot of Christians (though not every Christian) considers Jesus as being the Son of God the Father. If you ask me, I do not completely understand the Trinity myself.

Jesus is mentioned in the Old Testament.

    * Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

    *  Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

    *  Michah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

In Isaiah 12, verses 2 and 3, it says, "

2 Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ' For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’” (this relates to Exodus 15:2)

3 Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation."

In 12:2, He also has become my salvation is translated from Hebrew he also is become my salvation

Isaiah 62:11 says, "Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

    In Hebrew: behold his reward

    sakar  (saw-kawr')

is with him and his work

    p`ullah  (peh-ool-law')

    before

    paniym  (paw-neem')

Salvation is a person, not a thing of event.

Habakkuk 3:13 says, "Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah."

Compare this to Genesis 3:15 "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

  15. yes

    yes

    yes

    yes

    god bless!

  16. Yes actually I have. I am currently in a Bible study class at my parish. Studying my faith for me is a lifelong adventure.

  17. I have done lots of research and continue to do so.

I think I have seen the Tanakh online and have noticed it is VERY similar to the OT.. what do you think is different?

There is nothing like reading the NT, and then going back and seeing all of the things that Jesus fulfilled. Our God YHWH has saved us!

    Luke 1:68

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people

Jewish people should read the NT.  The Gospels have power.

    Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Here is something else that might be of interest to you. In the book of Revelation, Jesus calls himself the Alpha and Omega. In Hebrew this is the Aleph and Tav. This clears up the untranslatable Aleph and Tav in the very first sentence of the Bible at Gen 1:1.
